Okay "Team Art Bell" shows up on the screen saver..
I do have a couple of questions Mark..
I am currently working on a Unit and I noticed the 1st unit is still sitting there
and saying: "Ready to Report"..
How often does the new software return results?.. Do I have to tell it to do it manually?.. Or does the software wait for a certain amount of reports before it sends the finished ones?..
I thought I had that all set up in my Preferences..
Thx.,
Keith

I'm not sure how long it takes for the report feature to automatically contact Berkeley. I haven't figured that one out. I've just been going to the "Projects" tab in BOINC and then right-click on the Project (SETI@home in this case) and click "Update" on the menu. That will report the workunits that have completed. Uploading is done automatically and in my mind, they should be combined...the Upload and the Report...but they aren't yet.

Mark,
My account info says that I am a member of Team Art Bell however I can't get my account to activate and get project info from Berkley.
my screen saver also just has the BOINC logo and says "no applications are running"?

thanks Dale. I have a project running now but I still don't know how to switch it to team art bell projects.
Could be I am just running seti at home and not any other boinc projects so my screensaver might not show team art bell.

Thanks, Dale! I'm really sorry...I have been quite busy.
rev, you need to join Team Art Bell for each project you sign up with and then your info in the screensaver should show up with the Team Art Bell name. Each project has its own website. Up toward the top of this forum in the Team Art Bell thread there is a sub-thread called BOINC projects. That lists all the websites and the Team Art Bell pages for each. Just go to each one and sign up.
Any problems getting started let me know.

Re: BOINC Transition Is Here
OK it is 'dumb question time'. How does this BOINC SETI program work? I get a bunch of technobable from the SETI website and it is not very clear at that. Is this a screensaver interface like SETI Classic? What happens to my already credited work, I will be at Milestone 700 in another week or so. Just a clear cut explanation will work...........Thank-You!

the short answer: download BOINC, activate a SETI account, attach to SETI. Crunch away.
How does it work? First you create your account. There is a way to do this that will show your classic SETI work alongside your BOINC SETI work, under "Participate in SETI@Home", then "Getting Started", select "activate account". Put in the exact same email address as you used for classic SETI. SETI will email you an account key, a very long number that you must never lose. Email it to all your friends, print it out and put it in your safe deposit box. Email it to every computer you want to run SETI BOINC on.
Next, download BOINC. When you get your email with account key, have it open side by side with BOINC. BOINC Settings tab, select "attach to project". A box will open up, and you will paste in your account key and the project url. BOINC will then download the SETI client and some work. If you don't select BOINC as your default screen saver, you can watch the pretty graphics by right clicking on the work unit in progress and clicking on Show Graphics. I have a perception that running this slows the progress, so I don't do it.
When the work unit is done, it gets uploaded. Another work unit will start, hopefully. You'll see one running and one "ready to report". When the second one uploads, the first one gets reported. When your look at your account on the SETI web page, you will see: pending! For a lot longer than you probably like. Two or three other people have to do this work unit too before credit is granted. This is supposed to make for better science.
If you activate your account based on the May 14 2004 snapshot, whatever you had at that point will show in your profile. At the close of the classic project, I think they will do a final snapshot.
I hope this helped. How close are you to the 750 badge? If you are doing SETI as a screen saver, we might be able to help get you that badge before the end, but that would be another topic....
Happy Crunching.

I am at 686 at the moment in the Classic Mode. I do not want to loose all of these credits. I am going to try your suggestions as to how to set up my account. I do want the 750 badge first. Will the 750 credits transfer over to BOINC?
