San Francisco Board Unanimously Supports $5 Million Per Person Reparation Payments

Post by Doka » 03-17-2023 04:42 PM

$5 million each?

People who never owned slaves would make payments to people who never were slaves in a state that never had slaves.

San Francisco Cost

If San Francisco does it alone Stanford University’s Hoover Institution calculated that the proposal would cost non-Black families in the city at least $600,000.

Point2Homes says "there are a total of 361,222 households in San Francisco."

The price tag is $192,733,200,000 from people who never owned slaves to people who never were slaves in a state that never had slaves.

By the way, the annual San Francisco budget is $13 billion. The reparations would be about 15 times the annual budget.

And allegedly this would make things fair.

If the board actually approved this nonsense, I suspect everyone who voted in favor would immediately be voted out of office in special elections and the bill would be quickly struck down as unconstitutional.

Thus, it's too bad it did not pass.

By the way, am I mistaken or is the city seal racist and sexist? I see no people of color nor any women.

Victimhood Forever

Post by Riddick » 03-18-2023 06:42 PM

In December 2022, California’s nine-member Reparations Task Force, formed by Governor Gavin Newsom two years earlier, estimated that, if a reparations program were ever adopted, each black person in the state descended from slaves could receive as much as $223,200 in compensation for past injustice.

The projected total cost, to California taxpayers, could reach $569 billion—almost two and a half times the state’s current budget. The task force is due to give its final recommendations in June 2023, including the exact monetary amount of compensation. “We are looking at reparations on a scale that is the largest since Reconstruction,” said one task-force member.

With California history lacking any specific link to slavery, the task force struggled to monetize a payout figure. Meantime, San Francisco has introduced its own reparations initiative and has proposed a $5 million payment to each black resident.

Someone from another country following the task force’s work might conclude that America is composed of only blacks and whites, with no other races or ethnicities. Other minority groups, such as Latinos and Asians, greatly outnumber blacks.

In California, according to the 2020 Census, 39 percent of state residents are Latino, 35 percent are white, 15 percent are Asian-American or Pacific Islander, 5 percent are black, 4 percent are multiracial, and fewer than 1 percent are Native American or Alaska Natives. Though no race or ethnic group constitutes a majority of California’s population, Latinos surpassed whites as the state’s largest ethnic group in 2014.

The focus on redressing wrongs that affect only blacks ignores major events in California history with relevance to other groups. One could argue, if California were to make financial reparations to any one group, black Americans would not be in the top position to demand such payouts. Latinos and Asians would likely have stronger historical claims.

Herein lies the fundamental problem with reparations: the lineage of victimhood will never end. Why not go back, further, skipping over Latino and Asian claims, and pay reparations first to Native Americans? California’s plan to offer reparations only to black Americans seems likely to create more racial antagonism among minorities.

Martin Luther King envisioned America as a land of equal opportunity for all, not one of government-enforced equal outcomes or perpetual victimhood of the “aggrieved” at the hands of the “oppressors.” But if reparations advocates get their way in California, every policy failure of the state will be blamed on slavery.

Those who never engaged in slavery will carry the burden of making amends for it, and those who didn’t suffer from it directly will benefit. The Democratic Party now views too many issues through the prism of historical race and gender oppression; it rejects equality of opportunity in favor of a hierarchy of privileges for identity groups ranked according to their levels of alleged historical mistreatment.

Democrat desire to offer slavery-based reparations to blacks alone comes with risks to its own prospects, especially in California—The reparations push risks marginalizing and taking other minorities for granted, including some, like Asians and Latinos, that are becoming more "unwoke". Nationally, Latinos have emerged as a significant voting bloc capable of flipping blue seats red, driven by education and public-safety issues.

Still, with the nation confronting an unstable economy, an open-border crisis, spiraling crime in major cities, and pervasive failure and instability in public education, Democrats have few domestic policy issues to run on in 2024. Perhaps they calculate the promise of direct cash payments and financial incentives to the most loyal element of their voting base is a price worth paying—even one this high.

The Communist agenda has always been to create utter chaos, every one off balance the "woke" are the walking brain-washed so busy mindlessly redoing all of society in a false image that can not exist. As humans we are just not equiped to please all but ourselves. When you numb yourself to the dark, you also numb yourself to the light. Living in "limbo" is worse than nothing At All. What a big "F" mess. I'M tired going to bed.

Regarding Reparations, What Would El Rushbo Say?

Post by Riddick » 03-25-2023 04:01 AM

'LET THE GUILTY PAY'
Edited & Excerpted From Steven Hayward at Power Line Blog:

When you see something as facially absurd as San Francisco’s proposal to pay $5 million in reparations to every black person whether they were descendants of slaves or not, one question to ask is: What would Rush Limbaugh say about this?

I think he’d say: conservatives should support San Francisco in this endeavor, and hope it spreads to every Democrat run city in the country. The logic here is simple: if we are to consider reparations seriously, Democrats should be made to pay them.

Here’s the relevant part of my argument from 2014:
  • The Democrat Party was the chief defender of slavery & its Jim Crow aftermath. Dems in large opposed the 13th & 14th Amendments, then for decades disenfranchised blacks in defiance of the 15th's intent, and contrived numerous ways to take the property of freed blacks and/or prevent them from acquiring property in the South.

For decades Democrats blocked civil rights legislation, and federal anti-lynch laws that Republicans proposed in the early 20th century. And Democrats voted against the Civil Rights Act of 1964 in much larger proportion than Republicans did.

But for the determined opposition of the Democratic Party for more than a century, blacks today would likely have accumulated a larger share of national assets and be closer to equality on all of the other measures held dear by the Left.
I think Rush would put the matter more simply: For over a century, Democrats were the party of slavery, secession, and segregation. And as San Francisco is an overwhelmingly Democratic city it is only fitting its Democratic citizens should pay up.

The time for cheap virtue signaling is over. It is long past time Dems pay up, and San Francisco voters should learn a harsh lesson about what kind of government they keep voting for. As H.L. Mencken once said, “Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard.”
