Magical thinking won’t fill fuel tank

Portland is a world leader in magical thinking on climate change. Last Wednesday, we saw the City Council wave its magic wand yet again, when it considered banning petroleum diesel in Portland by 2030. Only so-called renewable diesel will be available within the city limits. City staffers and proponents of the ban are confident the market will conjure millions — if not billions — of gallons of renewable diesel to supply the city. But, the city itself admits it can’t find enough renewable diesel to service its own fleet. If the city government can’t meet its own goals, how will the city as a whole? The short answer: It won’t. The city is placing enormous hope that someday a company called NEXT Renewables will produce enough biofuels to serve the whole reguion. But the company’s plan for a production facility near Clatskanie is stymied by permitting issues and land use disputes. This renewable fuel project is already three years behind schedule and may never come online. Electric vehicle technology for trucking is still a long way off. We’ve been here before. In 2001, Portland promised that by 2010 all city-owned facilities would be using 100% renewable electricity. That never happened, and now the deadline is pushed back to 2030. Last week, council members patted themselves on the back for banning petroleum diesel. But where will they be in 2030 when they find out the replacement fuel just isn’t there?

I think what we're observing is a Matrix of ideology driven Woke folks generating pockets of unreality, with the intent to expand the pockets' influence over time & displace objective reality with their special brand of "idyllic" idiocy everywhere.

Portland's council diktats mirror 'The Prisoner': In the Village, private vehicles were banned, only public electric shuttles allowed. Travel was faster walking, a real world impact Villagers dared not point out or discuss.before OR after the fact -

While conformity & cooperation were rewarded, to protest would be 'unmutual' & 'disharmonious' & be grounds for public humiliation followed by intense social rehab, including but not limited to forced drugging & in extreme cases, surgery.

(In one episode, "Public Enemy Number 6" was sentenced to the latter...!)

With only one newspaper, one TV station, & one radio station, platforms for dissent were purposely non-existent & had it existed no doubt Villagers would only have access to approved Web content. The council's was the first, last & only word.

Some folks think something can come of nothing; keen observers know different. Magic is unreal. The big trick for Wokies is to "cure" observers of free thinking, or barring that silence them, any way they can! Don't give in & don't let 'em fool ya.

Wokies want to have their cake and eat it too. They want renewables, yet are anti-development, outright banning or tying up plans to expand production. It's the old "Not In My Back Yard" mentality. Like oil drilling is bad here, but OK in Venezuela.

Wokies like magical thinking 'cuz it means never having to admit they're wrong. If things don't turn out they way they thought, they'll come up with some excuse, like systemic racism or transphobia, capitalism, conservatism, yada yada yada -

None of it needs to make any sense. At that rate next thing you know, they'll decide the magic didn't work out 'cuz there's just not enough human sacrifice. Wokeism's high priests will decide who gets their blood spilt on the altar -

What's scary is in a sense we're already on that road. Blasphemers beware!

Russia Temporarily Bans Exports of Oil to U.S., Other Western Nations

28 Dec 2022

Dec. 27 (UPI) — In response to Western price caps on Russian oil, President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday banned the export of oil to the United States and other Group of Seven and European Union nations.

The ban, which applies to all Russian oil and petroleum products, will go into effect Feb. 1 and be enforced until July 1. According to the Kremlin, oil exports to the affected Western nations can still occur, but only if Putin grants it in a special order.

This month, Western nations imposed a price cap on Russian oil that prevents the price from rising above $60 a barrel. The move was designed to punish Russia for its war in Ukraine, and any nation that sells above the price cap can lose access to insurance and financial services that are essential for oil shipments in international waters.

Analysts say Russia’s recent profit-making from high energy prices could be subsiding in the months ahead, bringing more pressure on it over its war, which also has brought sanctions against individual Russian officials, too.

The oil market didn’t actively respond to Putin’s degree, with the benchmark Brent oil price going up less than 2% Tuesday, while U.S. oil rose above $80 a barrel. Russia has rerouted much of the oil it once shipped to the West, instead sending it to nations such as China, India, and Turkey at a deep discount.
