Thanks for these two... I haven't heard either one of them for years, but just the other day I was thinking about Janis Ian and this song.

Sorry to say I am so disgusted I cannot think of a song which expresses how I feel today.

I'm not even sure disgust is the proper word either.

I can always listen to them, but this one works today. Heavy stuff.
Hello all you boys and girls
I'd like to take you to the inside world
It's quite an irregular place to be
But never fear you're safe with me
Well, maybe
Golden hair of macrame'
Against the face that's cut from stone
The white porcelain is screaming Ayee
Thank God the the boy is not alone
I don't believe in Santa Claus
I don't belive in spite
I have no use for beauty dolls
Especially on this night
I don't believe in miracles
I don't belive in lies
I don't belive in hologram

For I am the Frizzle Fry

Andy's painting green again,
This time they might take him away
When Barrington starts to breathe again
It may just take us all away
I don't believe in charity
I don't believe in sin
And if you don't believe in me,
We'll play this tune over again
I don't believe in pinochle
And I don't believe I'll try
I do believe in Captain Crunch

For I am the Frizzle Fry
Yes I am the Frizzle Fry.

How time slips away.

Lyrics:
Well hello there
My, it's been a long long time
How am I doin'
Well I guess I' m doin' fine
It's been so long now and it seems that
It was only yesterday
Yeah', ain't it funny how time slips away

~~~~
I gotta go now
Guess I'll see you hanging 'round
Don't know when though
Never know when I' ll be back in town
But I remember what I told you
That in time, it's going to be okay
Yeah, ain't it funny how time slips away
Yeah, ain't it funny' how time slips right on,
slips right on ah'
Away..............
Was thinking more along these lines after the past week - although the folks in New York (and other places, no doubt) can probably say they can also relate through their prior experiences........
The End of The Innocence
Remember when the days were long
And rolled beneath a deep blue sky
Didn't have a care in the world
With mommy and daddy standin' by
But "happily ever after" fails
And we've been poisoned by these fairy tales
The lawyers dwell on small details
Since daddy had to fly
But I know a place where we can go
That's still untouched by men
We'll sit and watch the clouds roll by
And the tall grass wave in the wind
You can lay your head back on the ground
And let your hair fall all around me
Offer up your best defense
But this is the end
This is the end of the innocence
O' beautiful, for spacious skies
But now those skies are threatening
They're beating plowshares into swords
For this tired old man that we elected king
Armchair warriors often fail
And we've been poisoned by these fairy tales
The lawyers clean up all details
Since daddy had to lie
But I know a place where we can go
And wash away this sin
We'll sit and watch the clouds toll by
And the tall grass wave in the wind
Just lay your head back on the ground
And let your hair spill all around me
Offer up your best defense
But this is the end
This is the end of the innocence
Who knows how long this will last
Now we've come so far, so fast
But, somewhere back there in the dust
That same small town in each of us
I need to remember this
So baby give me just one kiss
And let me take a long last look
Before we say goodbye
Just lay your head back on the ground
And let your hair fall all around me
Offer up your best defense
But this is the end
This is the end of the innocence
Strange Angels - Laurie Anderson
[yt]/VYQ-Al7ijk4[/yt]
They say that heaven is like TV
A perfect little world
that doesn't really need you
And everything there
is made of light
And the days keep going by
Here they come Here they come
Here they come.
Well it was one of those days larger than life
When your friends came to dinner
and they stayed the night
And then they cleaned out the refrigerator -
They ate everything in sight
And then they stayed up in the living room
And they cried all night
Strange angels - singing just for me
Old stories - they're haunting me
This is nothing
like I thought it would be.
Well I was out in my four door
with the top down.
And I looked up and there they were:
Millions of tiny teardrops
just sort of hanging there
And I didn't know whether to laugh or cry
And I said to myself:
What next big sky?
Strange angels - singing just for me
Their spare change falls on top of me
Rain falling Falling all over me
All over me
Strange angels - singing just for me
Old Stories - they're haunting me
Big changes are coming
Here they come
Here they come.
this is perhaps the best night time music ever. A proud Montrealer.
The heartbreaking necessity of lying about reality and the heartbreaking impossibility of lying about it.
I bet you have Oscar playing in the back ground when you serve up one of your artistically crafted dinners. :)
