Gallup Poll: Only 5 Republican states in USA
by Red no more
Wed Jan 28, 2009 at 11:39:36 AM PST

Or, you could call this "What will a 50-state strategy buy?"

Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Alaska and Nebraska. That's it. And even Nebraska gave one of its electoral votes to Barack Obama.

According to the Gallup poll out today, only these 5 states have a statistically significant majority who self-identify as Republicans. Stunning, just stunning. As a former Republican myself, I could certainly see this coming as every rational, intelligent and moral person was pretty much driven screaming from the party.

Ten more states are toss-ups. So much for the permanent Republican majority, I guess!

The map pretty well says it all:

Image

All told, 29 states and the District of Columbia had Democratic party affiliation advantages of 10 points or greater last year. This includes all of the states in the Northeast, and all but Indiana in the Great Lakes region. There are even several Southern states in this grouping, including Arkansas, North Carolina, and Kentucky.

What does that leave our Republican friends?

In contrast, only five states had solid or leaning Republican orientations in 2008, with Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, and Alaska in the former group, and Nebraska in the latter.

The most balanced political states in 2008 were Texas (+2 Democratic), South Dakota (+1), Mississippi (+1), North Dakota (+1), South Carolina (even), Arizona (even), Alabama (+1 Republican), and Kansas (+2 Republican).

Here's what Gallup, the most respected (or recognized, at least) pollster in the country has to say about the results:

The political landscape of the United States has clearly shifted in the Democratic direction, and in most states, a greater proportion of state residents identified as Democrats or said they leaned to the Democratic Party in 2008 than identified as Republicans or leaned Republican.

As recently as 2002, a majority of states were Republican in orientation. By 2005, movement in the Democratic direction was becoming apparent, and this continued in 2006. That dramatic turnaround is clearly an outgrowth of Americans' dissatisfaction with the way the Republicans (in particular, President George W. Bush) governed the country.

Sorry for the dearth of commentary, but the picture is worth a million words. Simply stunning!

Center-right country? Yeah, right!

And the required notices per Gallup policy:

Copyright © 2008 Gallup, Inc. All rights reserved. In addition, the date of the survey, margin of error, and sample size shall be reported.

Results are based on telephone interviews with 355,334 national adults, aged 18 and older, conducted in 2008 as part of Gallup Poll Daily tracking. For results based on the total sample of national adults, one can say with 95% confidence that the maximum margin of sampling error is ±1 percentage point.

The margin of sampling error for most states is ±1 percentage point, but is as high as ±4 percentage points for the District of Columbia, Wyoming, and North Dakota.
Republican - re·pub·li·can (r-pbl-kn) - political party, which will control part of Congress 2011-2012, undermining the strength of the country - on purpose, in public, without apology or shame - simply for a campaign advantage in 2012.

This story, like all so-called news stories based on so-called polls, is ridiculous. The entire polling system has been totally exposed over the past twenty-eight years as nothing more than just another element in the all-consuming political spin. Fascism is far, far more deeply embedded in Amerikan life than this article --- or any other article designed to prop up Obama as “the next big thing” --- indicates. 47% of the American electorate voted for McCain/Palin in November of 2008, a ridiculous showing for the Democrats when you consider that 2008 was the worst year, socio-economically, since 1932. And it is still very much there, as Obama is doubtlessly discovering this very day as he circulates around the Capitol, hat in hand, trying to come to some sort of modus vivendi with the fascists in Congress.

The Amerikan people placidly sat by for eight years as electricity, oil and cereal grains were privatized to an unprecedented extent; as government agents cooperated --- if they did not cause --- the deaths of three thousand citizens in order to establish a long-prepared fascist police-state; as the so-called President of the United States (actually nothing more than the figurehead leader of a fascist coup d’etat legitimized by the Supreme Court) cold-bloodedly lied the country into two wars; as Amerika rejected two centuries of foreign policy and shamed itself beyond redemption by rejecting the Geneva Convention and by championing torture as an instrument of foreign policy; as the government condemned to extinction one of the biggest cities in this nation, quite possibly by means of premeditated sabotage; as the Posse Comitatus Act and Habeas Corpus silently disappeared as highlights of the rule of law in Amerika; and lastly, as the fascist ruling class openly raped the country, in full sight of the Amerikan people, to the tune of God knows how many trillions of dollars and for no beneficial purpose, as far as one can tell over the past three months.

The Amerikan people saw all of this happening --- and they, by and large, consented to all of it. And then, when the consequences of their greed, their stupidity and their callousness started to become evident to even the most stupid citizen, they suddenly turned to a political unknown to rescue them from the socio-economic consequences of their actions. Without the slightest hesitation. Without the slightest reflection. Without the slightest sense of guilt.

It is too early to determine whether Obama wants to save the country, as he endlessly claims that he does, but even if he does want to save the country, he is doubtlessly starting to learn that it will be far, far harder to do so than he thought. And Obama is a damn fool if he trusts the Amerikan people to support him in the long run. Either he will fail to save Amerika or he will succeed, and in either case the debased, degenerate, doomed Amerikan people will abandon him to grovel at the feet of their fascist masters. As they did in 1918. As they did in 1938. As they did in 1944. As they did in 1968. As they did in 1980. And as they did, terminally, in 1994.

This story is laughable. Look out your window, bud, and you’ll see fascism (even if fascism currently in hiding) as far as the eye can see.

Well said Joe, Obama has a daunting task ahead of him and you are right, it is too early to tell how well he will succeed, I pray that he will.

Rombaldi, also with all due respect, coming from you this is quite possibly the funniest statement I have ever read here at the Fantastic Forum.

You say you want a revolution?

Well, Joe, you will not achieve anything close to that with your methods. You want to prod the angry and suffering masses into action. That can be easily accomplished.... but then what?

Will you have a revolution? No.

You will have destruction and death and pain. Has there not been enough suffering to please you?

You are entirely unaware of the central requirement of revolution. You see, you are wrong in thinking that anger and despair are sufficient ingredients. Not so. Unless your sole desire is to create anarchy and bloody chaos where only the well armed survive.... you need a plan.

A plan requires the central core of hope that a better world is possible..... and hope is what you destroy. The destruction of hope is easy.... any pants-pissing moron on the street corner can preach that. Preaching despair and destruction is all they can do.... they can lead nothing.

Positive action, and the realization of dreams, is difficult. These, you see, cannot be achieved without commitment and ideation and hard work. Many on this forum researched and experienced and devoted thought to the positive goal. We have made that commitment.

You, however, are free to continue masturbating your "intellect" on this forum. There seem to be some who like to watch you do that.

A great many do not...... it is annoying, you see.

To each their own.

if you think about it logically, a real, honest-to-goodness revolution would be almost impossible in this day and age. for starters, if we didn't somehow interdict the nuclear chain of command, the revolution would be pointless. with all of our forces either raging against the machine or suppressing the working class (in a nutshell), all of the the other countries would be free to invade us. how would we get around such a quandry?

You are right.

The revolution must come by means of the rule of law, by the vote and by the peaceful determination and hope of the people who still believe that the democratic process will sustain and renew the Republic. That sentiment is not in opposition of Jefferson's ideas but rather supportive of the function.

"Revolution" without a plan will result only in destruction, purges and death.... perhaps civil war.

If the United States is the most "Powerful" nation, then we must lead by example. We, as a people, must recognize he immediacy of the cusp that is upon all the world's people. We, as a people, must refrain from the easy out of being the world's greediest population and prove to the suffering many that we do, indeed, give a frack about their survival, too. Oddly, it should be our goal to PREVENT the "revolution" of the hopeless that joequinn espouses. That way, the hopeless way, will result only in the further suffering.... and greater opportunities for the elite.

joequinn and charlie manson have attributes in common. Both are/were sure that they had "figured it out", both were mesmerized by the power of their "intellect", neither had a plan..... neither had hope. Is chaos that desirable? Is "Helter Skelter" (or the bastard idea of it) a goal to be sought?

But what do I know.

I live within my own lights and seek no further domain. After seeing war all I seek is peace and security. No more.

Others, great others, have shown us the way. Jesus, St. Francis, Buddha, Gandhi and Martin Luther King, Jr.

They had dreams, you see....... and hope.

I just got home from a party where 2 more of my family just came here from Cuba. Guys we do not have it bad here at all in the US not at ALL. They have hope, unfortunately for them there hope is across the ocean. But they come here and succeed, they all succeed why ??? Because you can here. Yes there are many that have much against them but as my Uncle said tonight. "If you can't make it here you can't make it anywhere."

So they fight, they swim, they make boats out of chevy's but they come here, to live in the best Country in the whole world. And many of them have hope that there is future in this world with new leadership, here in the US. Or as my Uncle in Law said, in the land of Miss Libertad.
Aquí la luz que brilla para que nadie puede ver. Tal vez aquellos de nosotros que están demasiado cerca de haber cerrado los ojos.
Translation:

She shines her light for anyone that can see. Perhaps those of us that are too close have closed our eyes.

Yes there is hope, and its coming from more than just the US.
