Why The Russian Revolution Still Matters

Nobody expected the Russian Revolution. It came all of a sudden and if you come to think of it, it wasn't just one revolution. The first took place in February 1917 and it managed to overthrow the monarchy and install a Provisional Government. Then comes the month of October, when the second revolution makes the Bolsheviks the rulers of Russia.

This is how the first communist country emerged. One hundred years ago Lenin’s Bolshevik resistance movement overturned centuries of Russian feudalism. But what does it mean for the world today? Does the revolution even matter?

Clearing the path for the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) to quickly become one of the world's greatest powers, the socialist uprising in Russia is an extraordinary story. The culmination of the transformative months of that year, and the abrupt popular overthrow of tsar Nicholas II and his regime is all intrigue and violence and loyalty and treachery and courage.

But what of that prevailing sense that these giant events occurred worlds away and eras ago? Are they now just baleful warnings? Something else? One salutary impact of recent extraordinary events (with more to come) has been the carnage of political givens, the humbling of the know-it-all.

Things were different once. Why could they not be again? The overthrow of Russia’s tsars is a poignant reminder of how quickly things can change when people are unhappy.

The Russian Revolution actually started well before 1917 - there were episodes against the monarchy back in the 1840s, and events even before that in the 1700s. Some events were deliberate, some were issues of people disconnected from society making decisions that did not go over well with everyday people. The country was ripe for a takeover and our banks here at home n the US were more than willing to help fund the revolution and spark a multi-generational conflict costing millions of lives spanning dozens of countries.

German Condoms Funded The Russian Revolution

Post by Riddick » 07-29-2017 12:49 AM

The name Vladimir Ilyich Lenin is not often linked with wartime profiteering and black-market smuggling gangs. A noted prude, he lacked the gene for swashbuckling. Yet crime and speculation helped finance his activities in 1917. A good deal of the cash he needed to prepare the Great October Socialist Revolution was channeled through an import-export company that specialized in contraband pharmaceuticals, lead pencils and German condoms. It would appear that the Bolsheviks are alive and well all over the world, actively at work, all inclusive , no matter what income. Actions never go away. Political Correctness, helps though, never call anything what it really is and put some lipstick on it , and it's newly discovered ALL OVER AGAIN!

If people aren't taught topics n school or have no desire to learn....... Communism with its "common good" emphasis, can appear appealing to the naïve.

Great Pictures!

Everyday life before the Bolsheviks: Fascinating images show the Kremlin, St Petersburg and Kiev in the final years of Tsarist Russia

A series of pictures taken in Russia in the final years of the 19th century give a fascinating glimpse into the country's history, two decades before the Bolshevik Revolution.

The scenes from Tsarist Russia show the nation's largest cities and landmarks in what is the present-day Ukraine, as they would have been for those alive in the tumultuous era.

In November 1894, Nicholas II became the country's last Tsar. He would be executed in July 1918 following his overthrow from power.

The Kremlin, the Alexandrinsky Theatre and sweeping views across Moscow, St Petersburg and Kiev are among the now-colourised sights on view.
