Santino, a 31-year-old chimpanzee at Sweden's Furuvik Zoo, collected a cache of rocks and threw them at visitors. In a March report, researchers said his behavior confirmed that apes can plan ahead like humans. :p

In November, the cries of alarm from Willie, a Quaker parrot from Denver, Colo., alerted his owner, Megan Howard, that the toddler she was babysitting was choking. His yells of "Mama, baby" led Howard to perform the Heimlich maneuver and earned Willie the local Red Cross chapter's Animal Lifesaver Award on March 20.

Kamala, a newborn female White Bengal Tiger is fed milk using a baby bottle at the Olemse zoo in Olmen May 22, The cub, born on May 12, 2009, is not an albino but only have black pigments as compared to tigers which normally have red and black pigmentation, according to a zoo official.

A two-pound, eight-week-old kitten that was dropped Friday June 12, 2009 in a public mailbox and later found among envelopes and packages is shown in Boston, Tuesday June 16, 2009. According to the MSCPA, the kitten they're calling 'Postina' was stuffed through a small opening and discovered Saturday afternoon by a U.S. Postal Service letter carrier
