The hummingbirds are back, as are the Whippoorwill's. I couldn't resist posting the picture of my hummingbird perch. My wife Jeannie laughed at me last year to the point of tears saying. Now I know you've lost it Billy. In less than one hour she was saying look, a hummingbird is sitting on your perch. I knew they wouldn't let me down:D tryed to get a picture with a hummingbird sitting on it. But those little hyper dudes are fast.

NEW YORK -Polly want a New York City Council resolution?
A Queens politician is drafting measures to protect Brooklyn's wild Quaker parrots, whose nests have caused power outages. Councilman Tony Avella wants to make it illegal to capture the parrots and wants the city to relocate their nests when necessary.
The green parrots also are known as monk parakeets. They're native to Argentina but have been in Brooklyn for about 30 years. Flocks of them have settled at Brooklyn College.
The utility Consolidated Edison says parrot nests built in electrical equipment have caused at least seven fires in Brooklyn.
Residents whose homes lost power say the birds don't belong there.
Animal lovers say the parrots are part of the neighborhood and bring life to the skies.

Quaker Parrots are from Argentina. They are extremely hearty, prolific, and successful in the wild. In Argentina they are in such huge numbers they are said to destroy 1/3 of the country's corn crop.
A good number of them have escaped in the US and have survived in the wild. Probably most of these were wild caught and brought into this country in groups and escaped in groups before going into the pet trade, because our hand fed babies do not know how to survive in the wild. But these did, and they have taught their offspring. A pet escaping today might survive if they found a flock.
Quaker parrots have become established in such diverse parts of the United Sates as Florida, Texas, New York, New Jersey, and Illinois.
Because of concern that these birds might become established agricultural pests and that they represent a threat to native species in the local environments, they are illegal to own or to sell in California, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, Hawaii, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Wyoming. They are legal to own, but illegal to sell or breed in Connecticut. They are legal to own with registration and banding in New York, and legal to own with breeder or seller registration in Virginia.
Quaker Parrots make wonderful pets and they are generally good talkers. This is Gizmo. She belongs to a friend of mine. I taught my friend how to train Gizzy. I don't think she'd mind my posting her picture here. No, it's not photoshopped, it's real.
