Colorado Voting Machines machines tossed for '08

Post by SETIsLady » 12-17-2007 08:21 PM

A significant number of electronic voting machines widely used in counties across the state will be banned for the upcoming presidential election because they are unreliable and unsecure, Secretary of State Mike Coffman announced today.

All electronic voting and tabulation machines used in Jefferson, Logan and Mesa counties were decertified and prohibited from use in future elections, according to the results of a lengthy investigation Coffman discussed in a news conference this afternoon.

The full results are available on Coffman's Web site at sos.state.co.us

Certain voting machines in many other counties, including Denver and Arapahoe, also were banned.

Four companies supply electronic voting machines to counties across Colorado. Coffman approved all equipment made by Premier Election Solutions (formerly Diebold). Those machines are used in 12 counties, including Adams, Broomfield, Weld and Larimer.

Coffman decertified all Election Systems & Software (ES&S) equipment, which is used in Jefferson, the county with the third-largest number of voters.

He approved some machines made by the other two companies — Sequoia and Hart Intercivic.

Voting machine company vendors have 30 days to file appeals.

Coffman's office underwent the extensive review because of a judge's order from a lawsuit filed last year by a group of citizens who allege that electronic voting systems are unreliable and insecure.

The announcement will force many election officials to scramble to find other ways to conduct next year's elections.

Some county clerks have called for an all-mail election. Local voter groups are advocating a system where voters cast paper ballots at precincts.

State lawmakers will convene an all-day meeting Tuesday to discuss legislative options for next year's elections.

Premier Election Solutions (formerly Diebold).

Pay attention the names have been changed, but Ohio just tossed the same machines, from the same company. Our old enemy Diebold :(

So, the way the article reads, Diebold is still in action in Colorado. Diebold, based in Ohio, the company who's founder and chairman was also chairman of the Bush Whack team for the state, guaranteeing that he "will deliver votes for Bush". Diebold, dem folks be whack for Bush, hackity hack through the door 'round back.
