New England Dioceses Join Sexual Abuse Reporting System

Post by Riddick » 08-16-2019 12:33 AM

Several Roman Catholic dioceses in New England announced Wednesday they were joining an independent system for reporting misconduct or abuse by church leaders.

The system, started this year by the Diocese of Boston, was joined by the Diocese of Manchester in New Hampshire, the Diocese of Burlington in Vermont and the Diocese of Portland in Maine, as well as several dioceses in Massachusetts.

The names are accompanied by resources on the website for survivors and a section for anyone to report church abuse.

“With the controls, we have put in place and continuing vigilance, our diocese’s procedures have created a safer Church in Maine. But there are always opportunities to improve the ways in which we protect against possible abuse in the many forms in which it can arise,” Bishop Robert Deeley, of the Diocese of Portland, said in a statement. “I am pleased that the new, third-party system establishes a clear and independent system way for people to report misconduct by bishops.”

However, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, known as SNAP, said there was a “glaring flaw” in the system in that allegations are not made public.

“The Catholic Church has already demonstrated that it cannot be trusted to police itself. By keeping the accusations under wraps, the process does not encourage victims, witnesses and whistleblowers with additional information to come forward,” Melanie Sakoda, the survivor support coordinator for the group, said in an emailed statement. “People are often reluctant to be the first but will step up when they know someone else has come forward. The best place for allegations of sexual abuse is still in the hands of law enforcement.”

My home diocese is ground zero with the sex abuse crisis. All we've seen is church closures as people are leaving an organized religious life. Many feel that they cannot trust the local priests and higher-ups. My parish was just "linked" with two others - it's a new model and virtually everyone hates it. We have two new (to us) priests running there parishes and the tension is palpable. We already feel that our parish will be closed within the year, although that's not the official word, but we see favoritism to the two other parishes. We're looking around but its the same everywhere.........

Also (who knew??) the Jehovah Witnesses are party to new law suits under New York state law changes....... The numbers pale in comparison to the Catholic Church, but this isn't an issues that involves just the Catholics

It not just an "issue" that only involves Religion, the Big Picture, Is the constant assault , world wide, from the "Liberal New World Order" ghouls. Many many humans will not survive it . Must admit ,many humans, sometimes only learn by the "Experience" of course by then, it's a little late.

Just look at the human trafficking issue alone...... Many hospitals provide classes to staff on how to recognize the signs of human trafficking

And yet we have staunchly invited the invasion of such things into our country. "Consequences" of inappropriate and short sighted , guilt ridden decisions. Not that we didn't have enough here already. Apparently anyone coming over the border with a child is automatically labeled a "Good Parent" rather if they are or not. We are drowning with the "Naive American" "Toothfairy Syndrome". Many have absolutely No "Street Smarts" or a realistic perception of the "Ways of the World"! This World and the people in it are just NOT all that nice! It is my belief, that Many will be finding out, by Raw ,Brutal personal experience, sad to say. All part of the leap of humans into Maturity.

And let's not forget that, at one time, indentured servitude was also an accepted practice among European arrivals.

Yes, of ALL skin colors, Irish, English, etc. I would hardly call it "accepted" , although , when it came to being hung or having your head chopped off, it must have looked pretty good. For quite sometime the Eurpean Countries, used America as a prision dumping ground, like Australia. Many don't realize when it came to enslavement, having black skin was NOT necessary to qualify as a slave.

Although "indentured servitude" is a fascinating subject, well worth reading about. I really don't understand the connection, between (indentured servitude) and sexual child abuse?

Indentured servitude

An indentured servant or indentured laborer is an employee (indenturee) within a system of unfree labor who is bound by a signed or forced contract (indenture) to work for a particular employer for a fixed time. The contract often lets the employer sell the labor of an indenturee to a third party.

Snippet :
Between one-half and two-thirds of white immigrants to the American colonies between the 1630s and American Revolution had come under indentures.[2] However, while almost half the European immigrants to the Thirteen Colonies were indentured servants, at any one time they were outnumbered by workers who had never been indentured, or whose indenture had expired, and thus free wage labor was the more prevalent for Europeans in the colonies.[3
