...and just so you know, and for those of you who are spreading the protection and good vibes, save some for the folks overseas.
This is typhoon Sinlaku, who at one point was a cat 4 tropical cyclone, just as Ike was.
Sinlaku is fixin' to do a dance all over the northern tip of Taiwan, and then move on towards Japan.
Helluva Friday, eh?

Janus, keep us in the loop of anything you're experiencing there.
It is a warm sunny day in Thailand, there has been flood warnings in many areas however....
The Meteorological Department reported at 5.30pm Friday that an active low pressure over the central and lower northern regions will move along the low pressure trough to Myanmar slowly, and a rather strong southwest monsoon remains over the Andaman Sea, the South and the Gulf of Thailand
Abundant rainfall and heavy rain are likely in many places such as Tak, Phichit, Sukhothai, Kamphaengphet, Phitsanulok, Phetchabun, Loei, Chaiyaphum, Nakhon Ratchasima, Sara Buri, Lop Buri, Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Chai Nat, Kanchanaburi, Suphan Buri, Sing Buri, Ang Thong, Ayutthaya, Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Sa Kaeo, Chachoengsao, Chantaburi and Trat provinces, as well as Bangkok.
People should beware of flooding conditions, and all ships should proceed with caution due to high waves during this period.
Bangkok metropolis and vicinity can expect fairly widespread thundershowers with isolated heavy rain. The daily temperature would range from 23 to 33 degrees Celsius. The speed of southwesterly winds would be around 15 to 30 kilometers per hour
Recall that last month was the Worst Mekong river flooding in 100 years

The footage/photos from the Texas coast are horrendous.
When you think that our homes are basically just sticks and glass -- and we depend upon them for shelter from the strongest storms -- we're very vulnerable, no matter where we live.

Video footage taken today (Monday, 9/15) of the horrendous destruction on Bolivar Peninsula:

Anchors Aweigh!
Anybody besides me been wondering why we haven't been seeing video of the damage from Ike, particularly in Galveston?
As I suspected, there's been a media blackout. Check out this video from Channel 13, the local ABC affiliate in Houston (same one I linked above):
Wayne Dolcefino confronts Gov. Perry
This reporter went up against the powers-that-be. He's got the right of it, too: They don't want us to see hurricane damage that will remind us of Katrina (it's an election year!).
He DID get in to film (some of his footage is in the videos I linked in my other post above, as well as at the link posted here), as did others, but only after he confronted Rick Perry directly about it.
I also think they are not being truthful about the number of deaths they are reporting so far. There are other videos below this one, some from the previously blacked-out areas of Galveston. Look at the houses in these videos, and recall how MANY people did NOT evacuate Galveston. Anyone in one of these homes reduced to rubble would have been washed out to sea, which means there's no body to count. Will that be the way of this?
I'm concerned. I'm trying not to be all tin-foilly here. I really think something is odd about the LACK of media coverage, and have been thinking so for the past 24 hours or so. This video is the first concrete thing I've found to indicate my suspicions may be correct.
