And so, clad in her magic Emerald Green Socialist slippers Alexandria & her canine counsellor, Mojo (nobody's pet, she & he are equally sage) join their fellow travelers on their quest to convince citizens who've not converted to their morally just cause and journey to do so BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!! -

C'mon folks! Let's ALL sing along...

"Follow The Holy Green Trail
Follow The Holy Green Trail!
Follow, follow, follow, follow, follow The Holy Green Trail
If ever a miracle cure there was?
The Holy Green Trail is great because
because because because becaaaause
It's the answer to everything JUST BECAUSE -
We're off to find utopia
At the end of The Holy Green Trail"

Introducing AMERICANS FOR ENERGY SECURITY & A STRONG ECONOMIC FUTURE

Exactly what it says on the tin, AND guaranteed 100% hidden agenda free, AFESASEF (in association with AAG [AMERICANS AGAINST GROUPTHINK]) supports prudent public and private policies that pursue oil, gas and coal alternatives for the fact supplies are finite and doing nothing ensures a future of energy insecurity

We're not about shutting down debate. Quite the opposite. Democratic Socialism? Settled Science? Eco-fascism? By all means, let's have a national discussion about how we can transition from fossil fuels without turning a blind eye to detrimental ecological and economic effects taking particular paths may present. At the same time, we're also not about buying lock stock and barrel into fear-mongering idealist draconianism.

Here's an idea: When those fast talking apocalyptic climate change/Green utopia salesmen gang up on you, DON'T hand them a blank check, alternatively assert your intellectual individualist liberty. Break out of the hivemind. Apply critical thinking skills at least once in a while. For all our sakes, we sincerely hope you do.

But Seriously, Folks...

From ANY point of view there's absolutely no reason to expect a pursuit of oil, gas and coal alternatives by continually kicking the can down the road would end well.

Still more than not politicians of all stripes have had a propensity for doing exactly that on divisive issues of import. And it's not just a American thing. The threat of a no deal Brexit's not been enough to get the UK government out of that habit -

But the EU won't wait forever for the UK to decide. At some point, it's gonna be time to sh!t or get off the pot - Seal a deal! OR not. At least they're working on it

Meanwhile, here in the US, for all sides to find agreement on a sensible fossil fuel exit strategy is vital for sure & we don't have forever to do it. But you wanna talk can kicking & ends of roads, would you believe there's a couple coming right up-??

A no-prize awaits the first pirate who can name these two "in-their-prime" cases of do nothing Washington leadership.

Here's the House Bill showing the co-sponsors.

Might want to actually read it. There is (no surprise) absolutely no reference to "cow farts".
Guess they had a change of fart... er, heart after AOC's office pulled the original GND FAQ from the Web. Too bad it was too late & word got out about the insanity
kbot wrote: 04-11-2019 05:48 PM There are phrases used such as "where technologically feasible". Translation: "This is a work-in-progress, outlining a means to an end", something that our alleged leadership has been MIA on ever since the advent of the Industrial Revolution.
A means to what end? Saving the planet? Based on what? I'll go along with we have to pursue fossil fuel alternatives. And there's still a lot that needs to be done in that regard.

But that's not the only end in its orbit I see the GND's gravitational pull potentially being used as a means to. And I don't see all those potential ends by necessity being good for the country or humanity as a whole.

A work in progress indeed.

What? Are you waiting for corporate America or the GOP to actually come up with a plan? THAT's your solution?

Tell me, they've (corporate America and the GOP)had since, what, at least since he original Earth Day i 1970 to come up with something, ANYTHING to reverse the trends of increasing pollution and they've done exactly squat. So, logically, since you feel that the Democrats plan is worthless, tel me what redeeming value you're finding in the corporate boardrooms and their enablers in the GOP? Forget the talking points about cow farts. Practically, what does the GOP and corporate America have that does things better?

This is a World Ideal . My Guess is that China and Russia will not be big players of this scheme. China is doing quite well with the introduction of Capitalism , it is still listed as a "Unitary one-party socialist republic" much like what the people of America seem to want to be like only ,hard core, as in before the Chinese reformation .Go figure......?Russia, may have had a belly full of Socialism, and may not be too eager to go back to it. The people are still struggling, with their somewhat new freedom, it is going to take a long time for the people to get their selves back in shape after almost a hundred years of Socialist Suppression, and corruption, It wasn't until around 1991 that the people could finally own private property.

Why even one American would want to live like these 2 countries, Beforethey started reforming, is totally mind boggeling to me.

Pacific plastic dump far larger than feared: study

The vast dump of plastic waste swirling in the Pacific ocean is now bigger than France, Germany and Spain combined—far larger than previously feared—and is growing rapidly, a study published Thursday warned.

Researchers based in the Netherlands used a fleet of boats and aircraft to scan the immense accumulation of bottles, containers, fishing nets and microparticles known as the "Great Pacific Garbage Patch" (GPGP) and found an astonishing build-up of plastic waste.

"We found about 80,000 tonnes of buoyant plastic currently in the GPGP," Laurent Lebreton, lead author of the study published in the journal Scientific Reports, told AFP.

That's around the weight of 500 jumbo jets, and up to sixteen times greater than the plastic mass uncovered there in previous studies.

And, this is from Trump's own governmnet web site.........

Learn about Ocean Dumping

What was dumped into the ocean before 1972?

In the past, communities around the world used the ocean for waste disposal, including the disposal of chemical and industrial wastes, radioactive wastes, trash, munitions, sewage sludge, and contaminated dredged material. Little attention was given to the negative impacts of waste disposal on the marine environment. Even less attention was focused on opportunities to recycle or reuse such materials. Wastes were frequently dumped in coastal and ocean waters based on the assumption that marine waters had an unlimited capacity to mix and disperse wastes.

Although no complete records exist of the volumes and types of materials disposed in ocean waters in the United States prior to 1972, several reports indicate a vast magnitude of historic ocean dumping:

In 1968, the National Academy of Sciences estimated annual volumes of ocean dumping by vessel or pipes:
100 million tons of petroleum products;
two to four million tons of acid chemical wastes from pulp mills;
more than one million tons of heavy metals in industrial wastes; and
more than 100,000 tons of organic chemical wastes.
A 1970 Report to the President from the Council on Environmental Quality on ocean dumping described that in 1968 the following were dumped in the ocean in the United States:
38 million tons of dredged material (34 percent of which was polluted),
4.5 million tons of industrial wastes,
4.5 million tons of sewage sludge (significantly contaminated with heavy metals), and
0.5 million tons of construction and demolition debris.
EPA records indicate that more than 55,000 containers of radioactive wastes were dumped at three ocean sites in the Pacific Ocean between 1946 and 1970. Almost 34,000 containers of radioactive wastes were dumped at three ocean sites off the East Coast of the United States from 1951 to 1962.

Following decades of uncontrolled dumping, some areas of the ocean became demonstrably contaminated with high concentrations of harmful pollutants including heavy metals, inorganic nutrients, and chlorinated petrochemicals. The uncontrolled ocean dumping caused severe depletion of oxygen levels in some ocean waters. In the New York Bight (ocean waters off the mouth of the Hudson River), where New York City dumped sewage sludge and other materials, oxygen concentrations in waters near the seafloor declined significantly between 1949 and 1969.

Yup, corporate America at its best...... Right, nuclear is an option. With a half-life of, what 10,000 years, what could possibly go wrong? People today will make their money and that's ALL that counts...... Screw future generations........

Nuclear waste storage sites in rock salt may be more vulnerable than previously thought

Research from The University of Texas at Austin shows that rock salt, used by Germany and the United States as a subsurface container for radioactive waste, might not be as impermeable as thought or as capable of isolating nuclear waste from groundwater in the event that a capsule or storage vessel failed.

A team of researchers from the university has used field testing and 3-D micro-CT imaging of laboratory experiments to show that rock salt can become permeable. Their findings, published in the Nov. 27 issue of Science, has implications for oil and gas operations, and, most notably, nuclear waste storage. The team includes researchers from the university's Cockrell School of Engineering and Jackson School of Geosciences.

"What this new information tells us is that the potential for permeability is there and should be a consideration when deciding where and how to store nuclear waste," said Maša Prodanovic, assistant professor in the Department of Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering. "If it's an existing nuclear waste storage site, you may want to re-evaluate it with this new information."

Corporate America & the GOP doing a bang-up job isn't my point at all. Rather, BE they environmental/ climate concerns, OR eventual supply depletion as drivers to pursue fossil fuel alternatives, common ground IS, IN FACT, ALREADY EXTANT for all parties interested to work together! As starting places go? IMO there's no place better than that.

But that's just it. ARRIVING at common ground and reaching a sensible workable solution all sides can live with BEFORE the sh!t hits the fan is something our leaders all too often are incapable of. Fact is, two such cases of neglect will be rearing their heads in short enough order -

While neither face world-ending scenarios? A whole lotta Americans will surely be in a world of hurt should federal government NOT get its sh!t together on both, toot sweet. As I'm of a "certain age", I may BE in that cornholed crowd of folks! IF I'm still around, & that's no certainty

What it'll take to truly turn things around in Washington ISN'T more of the SOS... AISI the BEST we can do, AS voters, is to eschew out-there ideological intransigence first & foremost: then populate it with people of atypical character when or if ever we get a chance to do just that

Does THAT sound like a sensible and workable approach? OR am I barking up the wrong tree here? George Carlin claimed there's no trace of truly great character left ANYWHERE in America yet we do have sucky citizens, sucky voters, & sucky sovrans in great supply

Insofar Carlin may well be right getting to work on disproval of his assertion should be a desirable top-tier actionable item for us all. Donchathink....?

Kinda makes you wonder why we even bother sending these dolts to Washington, doesn't it?

Sure, they may start out well-intentioned, but, before you know it, K-Street types descend on them like a flock of vultures, picking 'em off and offering them the world to change them and their votes.......... We've sen it all, before

"TOO EXTREME," Say Solar & Wind Firms Of GND

Post by Riddick » 04-30-2019 12:16 AM

U.S. solar and wind power companies may have the most to gain from the Green New Deal, an ambitious proposal backed by several Democratic presidential candidates to end U.S. fossil fuel consumption within a decade.

But do not expect the renewable energy firms to endorse it.

Representatives of America’s clean energy companies are withholding their support for the climate-fighting plan, calling it unrealistic and too politically divisive for an industry keen to grow in both red and blue states.

The cool reaction reflects the difficulty that progressive politicians vying for the White House may have in selling aggressive global-warming policy to the business community and more moderate voters.

It also underscores a new reality for U.S. solar and wind power companies long associated with the environmental left: As they have improved technology and lowered prices, their growth is shifting from politically liberal coastal states to the more conservative heartland, where skepticism of climate change and government subsidies runs high.

“If you just broadly endorse the Green New Deal, you are liable to upset one side of the aisle or the other. And that’s not constructive,” said Tom Werner, the CEO of SunPower Corp, one of the nation’s biggest solar power companies.

The Green New Deal has become the center of a renewed debate in Washington about how vigorously the government must act to address climate change.

The Congressional resolution, which has no force of law, calls for the federal government to make investments to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions in a decade by meeting 100 percent of America’s power demand with clean, renewable sources such as solar, wind, hydroelectric, or geothermal energy.

It also calls for massive investments in green infrastructure projects like “smart grids” to improve efficiency, along with a guarantee of millions of high-wage jobs with paid vacations, medical leave and retirement security. The resolution does not get into detail about how subsequent legislation would achieve these goals.

So far, at least eight Democratic presidential hopefuls – including senators Bernie Sanders of Vermont, Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota – have endorsed the plan as they seek to stand in stark opposition to the pro-drilling policies of President Donald Trump.

Trump’s fellow Republicans have widely panned the Green New Deal, saying it would cost trillions of dollars of taxpayer money, may be technically unfeasible, and smacks of radical socialism.

The feasibility of the proposal has been a source of concern for the clean energy industry, too.

“We love the enthusiasm the Green New Deal has brought to the climate issue ... but we need to operate in political reality,” said Dan Whitten, vice president of public affairs at the Solar Energy Industries Association, the solar industry’s main lobby group.

Another concern is the fact that the plan extends beyond energy and climate policies to include guarantees of jobs, training and healthcare for communities affected by climate change, said Greg Wetstone, president of the American Council on Renewable Energy, a non-profit organization promoting renewable energy industries.

“It creates controversy and complexity, tying this to issues that are not in our sphere,” he said.

The U.S. solar and wind industries have expanded over the last decade, thanks to lucrative government subsidies, and now employ some 350,000 workers nationwide - more than four times more than the coal sector, according to the 2019 U.S. Energy and Employment Report released this month.

During the last election cycle in 2018, solar and wind companies contributed significantly more money to Republican candidates than to their traditional Democratic allies.

“Staying out of the line of fire is the goal of most companies and trade associations,” said a clean energy industry representative. “There will be a real danger for our industry and companies if they are shouting out about the Green New Deal from the rooftops.”

Ya know Riddick, I really had no idea just how bad the Lies have become until we srarted just scraping the surface of what wind power could do and what actually they had currently had to offer( not much).

Which leads me to the conclusion that those running for President (Democrat) and ALL Democrat leaders are nothing but, liars, myth building cheats, that suck up their followers, with Utopic Dreams, that they cannot deliver. It is a sad deal, I would like to believe, that there is at least one Democrat out there that does Not build their whole lives on pure crap! .........Still Looking.
