I for one wold love to use public transport, but, as with just about everything that is semi-government, what we have around here sucks. What there is where I live runs sporadically enough to make it impossible for work. We had public transport from SE Mass to Boston, but that went away in the 50s, and now we have a traffic nightmare with most cars holding one person all going to the same place. Now, over sixty years later they're trying to get trains back.

Don't know what the answer is.

I (think) I know what AOC is trying to say concerning the New Green Deal and FDR - what he did to mobilize the country in the 30s and 40s is unmatched since with many worthwhile projects resulting in facilities still in use.

There may very well be "better" ways to get this done, but I'm not going to rely on the government or the corporations to get it done either.

How about a project to transform America into a totalitarian Democratic Socialist Green theocracy

Baby out with the bathwater. No more Red White And Blue. Monochrome. One color, one way.

That's a worthwhile "what so proudly we hail" endeavor? Not in my opinion.

YMMV

AOC cannot do anything by herself - she can present ideas, but that's it. Other members of Congress have to sign-on.

BTW, on tonight's news - the ice sheets are melting far faster since the 1960s than what scientists originally thought (wrong again....... no surprise there.....).

Just keep doing more of the same thing and see if that improves the situation........
There you go man, keep as cool as you can. Face piles and piles of trials with smiles. It riles them to believe that you perceive the web they weave. And keep on thinking free. (Moody Blues)

Well, vote in enough Democratic Socialists to Congress, and a sympathetic Prez, her ideas'll become law.

Will NOT doing the same thing improve the situation? Yes, climate change can be a bitch, but is that our fault? "Settled" science sez so

Then again, scientists aren't infallible, as you point out, they'e been wrong before. Plus we have politicians making predictions, like they're any better at it

For half my life I've heard it and heard it. "We only have 10 years!" Shouldn't we already be under water or fried to a crisp?

Still waiting for the Apocalypse...

The End Of The World As We Know It: My Take

Post by Riddick » 04-11-2019 01:18 AM

Pursuing suitable & adequate oil, gas & coal alternatives is most definitely a given as supplies will run out eventually if not sooner.

At the same time, laying of blame aside, even taking global warming as a given it may come as a shock to some the "settled science" ISN'T all it's hyped up to be, especially concerning The Climate Apocalypse

Panic & hysteria can motivate but they don't make for good decision making. Logic and reason can easily be lost in a flood of exaggerated claims and scaremongering. Which is why a review is long overdue

Regardless of motivation the bottom line remains the same: sitting on hands or twiddling thumbs are courses of (in)action that ought not be pursued

How Fear Of Nuclear Power Is Hurting The Environment

Post by Riddick » 05-26-2019 05:21 PM

"We're not in a clean energy revolution; we're in a clean energy crisis," says climate policy expert Michael Shellenberger. His surprising solution: nuclear.
In this passionate talk, he explains why it's time to overcome longstanding fears of the technology, and why he and other environmentalists believe it's past time to embrace nuclear as a viable and desirable source of clean power.
