Anyone here still crunching?

Post by Numanoid » 07-09-2010 07:05 PM

Seems a bit dead, very few active users left...

Got a new rig and putting in some time.

Numanoid, thank you for your comment. Hopefully it will spark response!

My experience was this: I started crunching the same time I joined the Ship (2003). Obviously, this requires you to leave your computer "up" 24/7. It was only weeks before my drive was infected with viruses, and after some investigating, the only conclusion I could draw was that SETI did it. SETI opened the gate. I put up with this crippled hard drive until 2007, quit SETI, and since (even though I disable stupid McAfee everytime it comes on and crashes my computer) I've never had a virus.

Besides. I don't trust SETI. To suggest that radio signals are the way to go is ludicrous to me! And --as Art indicates--as a Government-funded agency, would they tell us anyway.

Numanoid, thank you for re-activating all this!! But my experience was really pretty bad. Which may be why other people quit. Hope to see other ideas.
Did you ever stop to think, and then forget to start again?

I started in 2006, and by 2007 I had disabled the software. My system just ran too slowly to perform any other online work, and I also experienced an increase in viruses.
There you go man, keep as cool as you can. Face piles and piles of trials with smiles. It riles them to believe that you perceive the web they weave. And keep on thinking free. (Moody Blues)

That is very true, Keith. Probably why this part of the Fantastic Forum is now closed.

Check out other areas of the Fantastic Forum. For instance - join us in the Original Radio Room here for 'almost live' discussion during the upcoming 'Live' C2C Show hosted by Art Bell - this Friday, July 23rd! Guest: Peter Ward on about the Gulf Oil Disaster and Climate Change...
