Hey Now that's mighty fine fill-in work.

Rather than give what's left all away just yet, I'm throwing out some hints along with extra-bonus fill-ins:

Image
October 26, 1957
The Stars: ----- ------- & ------- ----
The Show: The ---- ---

Here's a pic of the two performers with their canine co-star:

Image

The actor, ----- -------, was brother-in-law to John F. Kennedy, the last person to speak to Marilyn Monroe, and the forgotten member of the "Rat Pack"

The actress, ------- ----, appeared with Vincent Price in the 1953 3-D film House of Wax and is often misidentified as having the Lois Lane role in the initial season of The Adventures of Superman

Together they played the TV version of an ex-private eye and his upper-class wife, originally portrayed by William Powell & Myrna Loy in a series of movies during the '30's and '40s

Image

In both cases the name of the series, The ---- ---, had nothing to do with the former detective being "horizontally-challenged" but instead came from one of the characters in the initial theatrical film

(For bonus points, name the crime-solving-for-the-fun-of-it sleuthing socialite couple and their pooch)

But WAIT! There's MORE

Subsequent to his '54-'56 stint as Dr. Konrad Styner on "MEDIC", ------- ----- went on to portray Paladin from '57-'61 on ---- ---, ---- ------ and --- ------ from '72-'73 on The NBC Mystery Movie

With Hope Lange as a young widow who rents a cottage near a fishing village in Maine, and said cottage haunted by the spirit of a 19th century sea captain, played by Edward Mulhare, The Ghost and Mrs. Muir also co-starred ------- ------ ------, who would later banter with Jack Klugman's wife ----- ------ as two of the three principal panelists (the other being ------- ------, aka Newkirk of Hogan's Heroes) on "Match Game" hosted by ---- -------

I loved Richard Boone and "Have Gun Will Travel".:)
That time was rich with Westerns and gave great entertainment. Being a "horse nut" and a rider I was in my element.;)

Wow, RH! My brother and I used to have that card -- we got it in a cereal box or something. We'd pass it back and forth, pulling it out of our pockets or (gulp) Western gun holsters and dare the other to shoot first! Fun to see that little card again!

"The Ballad of Paladin"

Post by Riddick » 10-24-2010 08:24 AM

HEY NOW, Folks - as a musical adjunct to this latest test & subsequent discussion, anyone else remember Duane Eddy's cover of the HGWT theme?
Image
It peaked at #10 during its 10 weeks on the Pop Charts in 1962...

From the YouTube description:
The Pop influences that inspired Ennio Morricone's 'Spaghetti' Western guitar sound!
"The Twang Bar King" does his take on the theme to the TV western starring Richard Boone. Another great example of strings and clanging chords.

Here's a music video featuring the original Johnny Western version of the theme (with lyrics):
