So, we're about to get whacked with a blizzard it seems. Projections are upwards of three feet of the fluffy blowing stuff. Out in the great plains area, this might not seem like a major issue, but when you have a few million people packed-in, things get a little - well, nuts.

We're hunkering down. All the usual staples at the stores were gone yesterday. Got my hands on some batteries but salt is a memory. Got some sand though. Snow's flying, roads are closed and we've been told to expect to lose power. National Grid has crews on standby. Keeping the woodstove fired-up and trying to figure out how to keep two miniature dachshunds happy with three feet of snow on the ground. As it was, my wife an I just took them out and they gave us that " You've GOT TO BE KIDDING!!!!!!!" look, with their eras flapping in the breeze and eyes squinted shut.

We had a three-day disaster drill set up at the hospital starting today that we had to cancel for - the real thing (nice....). We were cancelling elective cases, trying to find room for staff who were sleeping over - think toga party!!! Had to convince a radiologist who was sleeping over that, yes, I found him a bed to crash-in tonight, but, being a "Catholic hospital", we couldn't stream porn for him to watch during the storm. Doctors.......

We are experiencing a Pineapple Express. Very balmy weather. The chipmunks are bee-bopping around and mosquitoes are out in full force. Very weird for January.

Well, dug out a little earlier to get the girls out - they're not happy and now that I've got a fire going, they're laying on the floor in front of the woodstove.

The governors of Mass and RI have declared states of emergency in both states. The wind is whipping the snow around. Total driving ban in both states except for essential personnel. There have been some power outages - mostly right along the coast. I'm hoping that we won't lose any of the trees on my property.........

The worst of it here, appears to be along the coast from Maine right on south to New Jersey (wonder how Kaz is holding-up in all this....???).

All public transport is out of service. Police are ticketing anyone out driving.

My wife is scheduled to work today, but with the travel ban it isn't a good idea for her to be out in this. Been looking at a live camera feed that shows one of the two bridges that connects the communities between Mount Hope Bay and RI on the west with the rest of southeastern Mass and you can't even see the bridge - trying to figure out if the bridges are closed or not........ if the bridges are closed, then even trying to go to work is a non-issue. But, unlike the government (here at least) healthcare workers have to go to work, no matter what.

Herd the snowplows working during the night - have a nice pile of snow started on the corner of my property - I live on a corner lot. So, depending on the snowfall, I'll end-up with a mound of snow on the corner. One year we had a small mountain about 15 feet high.

So far I've heard reports of thundersnow and snow fog (frozen fog) across the area. They're still expecting up to three feet for this area. The barometric pressure continues to plummet. Nantucket is getting hammered. Generally we're getting anywhere from 2 - 3" of snow per hour.

So, the news now is that the nuclear power plant over at Plymouth has gone offline. Great timing........

The official story is that the plant has two supply transmission lines that sends power into the power grid. One transmission line went down, reducing capacity to 51%. Then, after that line went down - we're being told, a scheduled event, the plant engineers had to take the second transmission line off line. So, no power is being transmitted from Plymouth Nuclear.

There are back-up generators providing power to the plant so that we don't have a Fukashima-type event, but, the PTB don't know when the repairs will be made.

Snow continues to pile up - I have a nearly four foot wall at the end of the driveway that I'll be clearing out later as well as snow on my deck out back. Forecast is for possible rain later in the week, so the new worry is roof collapses.

State of emergency continues throughout New England. Hurricane force winds out on Cape Cod and the Islands. Power is out to about 10,000 homes - mostly on the Cape and shelters are seeing some activity.

According to some reports I've read New York City got about 6 inches of snow. If that's the case, Kbot, sounds like you are getting the worst of it! Keep safe! And post when you can.

Just cleared-off the deck out back - had over a foot on one corner of the deck - everything's blowing and drifting. "Officially" I think we're at about 8-10" where I live. Had a wall about 4" high at the end of my driveway because of the plowing, but my wife spoke with a plow operator and he helped me clear it out while we cleared the driveway and porch. But, as soon as we clear it - it's back. Deck already has about 6 inches on it again, and we've only been inside a few minutes. We have a line of hedges around our property and there's drifting - about 4 feet high.

The National Weather Service has New Bedford with 18", and Providence with 5" - we live halfway in between right on the Mass/ RI line. But, this storm isn't over - the next round is supposed t start somewhere between now and 1PM and run through until about 1AM tomorrow morning. So, we're about halfway through.....

My wife just spoke to her sister - she lives four towns over, and her son has been out four time starting around 2AM trying to keep ahead.

Nantucket is totally without power and the winds keep gusting to hurricane strength and then die down again.

There's a hot toddie in my future - it's only 11 in the morning and I don't care........ My wife stocked up last night with the standard New England trio - Bread, mild and booze. Keep the fires burning and hunker down!!!!!

Some updates - communities along the coast south of Boston got hammered. Marshfield's seawall was breached and a number of homes are lost. Scituate also hit hard, as were Sandwich and Falmouth on Cape Cod. North of Boston, Ipswich, Salem and Glocester were equally hit hard - all with over 30" and a lot of damage due to the tides. Marshfield has seawater rushing into the streets and it's freezing with some homes having water levels in their basements measuring feet in depth. Worcester also got over 30" and many communities are still without power.

Driving will cost you a $500 fine if caught on the road and you're not one of the exempted individuals listed on the governor's EO. The state of emergency will last until later tonight. We'll see what tomorrow brings.....

We've been lucky with about 30" here. Snow is still falling but we've been trying to keep ahead of it all. More snow tonight and still strong winds - a least we haven't lost power. My wife's lit some candles, the girls are under the blankets in their beds and I'm getting another hot toddie.

Some communities got over 3 feet. Boston is a nightmare. On a good day, Boston is a nightmare. Add in over 2 feet of snow and you have gridlock. There is simply no place to put the stuff. There are mounds of snow on virtually every street corner. Many cars are still plowed-in. On-street parking is fairly common in this part of he country, so many cars are buried.

We're expecting another foot or so Sunday night into Monday morning - just in time for the morning commute.......

Try to get it cleaned up by the end of May Kbot. I go to hit Newbury Street with the little woman.

We're trying, but it keeps coming........

"Newbury St, huh? Get your wallet out!!!!! What are the plans in Boston? If you haven't been already, head over to Cheers on Beacon St - it's not too far (only a few blocks).

Maybe by the time you get there, they'll have started the Boston Marathon Bomber trial by then. They still haven't approved one juror.....
