MIAMI (Reuters) - Powerful Hurricane Bill, a dangerous Category 4 storm with 135 mph winds, raged across the open Atlantic on Wednesday, days from land but on a path that could menace Canada's eastern provinces next week.

Sweeping past the Caribbean islands and posing no threat to U.S. oil and gas installations in the Gulf of Mexico, the first hurricane of the 2009 Atlantic season was expected to charge between the U.S. East Coast and Bermuda, well offshore.

Strong Storms Hit US as Bill Becomes 'Extremely Dangerous'
20-Aug-2009
Colorado Tornado
Don't say we didn't warn you: Powerful storms crossed the central and northeastern US as Hurricane Bill became an 'extremely dangerous' storm in the South Atlantic. So far this year, the US tornado season has been relatively mild, but it threatened to increase in intensity today as powerful storms struck from Colorado to New York.New York's Central Park lost over a hundred trees to 80 MPH winds, one of the strongest storms to strike the park in years. Meanwhile, Hurricane Bill increased in strength to a Category 4 storm and was expected to strengthen further as it continues to move north and west toward the US East Coast.

I apologize for being off topic, as usual, but does anybody else see the tsunami created by the earthquake offshore in the north west? In the New Year’s predictions I believe I mentioned that .

Question?
What good is seeing if you are helpless bystander?
What good are visions that you have no control over the outcome?

Mass. Under Tropical Storm Warning
By CHRIS GILLETTE, AP
posted: 33 MINUTES AGOcomments:

HAMILTON, Bermuda (Aug. 22) - Hurricane Bill shut the airport and caused flooding but no casualties on Bermuda on Saturday, then prompted tropical storm warnings for parts of Canada and the U.S. coast — including President Obama's planned vacation spot.
Bill had winds of 100 mph after blowing between Bermuda and the East Coast of the U.S.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami warned that Bill could bring "extremely dangerous surf and life-threatening rip currents to parts of the U.S. East Coast over the weekend before making a direct hit on Canada's Maritime Provinces as a tropical storm on Sunday.
Officials declared a tropical storm warning for the Massachusetts coast, including Obama's planned vacation spot of Martha's Vineyard, though the storm's eye was expected to stay offshore and pass that island before the president arrives on Sunday.
The warning, which also includes Nantucket, means meaning tropical storm-force winds of 40 mph or more could hit in the next 24 hours.
Bill was expected to start weakening Saturday night, but the Canadian Hurricane Center issued tropical storm and hurricane warnings for parts of the province of Nova Scotia.

Tropical Storm Danny forms in Atlantic

(AP) — Tropical Storm Danny has formed in the open Atlantic off the Bahamas.
Forecasters say the storm has top winds of 45 mph and is moving to the west-northwest at 18 mph. The storm could get stronger in the next two days.

As of 11 a.m. ET Tuesday, the storm's center was about 445 miles east of Nassau, Bahamas and about 775 miles south of Cape Hatteras, N.C.

The current forecast has the storm on a path to clip the U.S. East Coast over the weekend, but a storm's track can be difficult to predict days in advance. People in the Bahamas and the southeastern USA were advised to monitor the storm.

Meanwhile, far out in the Pacific, Tropical Storm Ignacio has weakened as it moves northwest with top winds of 45 mph.

UPDATE 1-Powerful hurricane hones in on Mexico resort

Tourists flee Los Cabos resort areas

* Hurricane Jimena almost a Category 5 storm

By Jason Lange

LOS CABOS, Mexico, Sept 1 (Reuters) - Hurricane Jimena, an extremely dangerous Category 4 storm, barreled toward Mexico's Baja California peninsula on Tuesday, forcing tourists to flee the Los Cabos resort area.

Carrying winds of nearly 155 mph (250 kph), Jimena was due to brush past the tip of the peninsula, home to world class golf courses and yachting marinas, later on Tuesday before making landfall in a sparsely populated area.

Residents, many of them poor hotel workers or builders, huddled into shelters and U.S. tourists sought early flights home to avoid the howling winds and torrential rain.
