You've done it in the past, Shirley -- you had the animated gif, remember? Whoever can post the animation when we have a watch or warning is fine with me.
Linda! I just saw a HUGE swirly fiendish thingy (that's for you, Bellisima!) covering the peninsula. Rotating quite fast. Popped in to see if you'd mentioned it. Glad you're getting RAIN -- and hope associated storms will be minimal.

Geez, Linda . . . I know you've got your eye on the TV. Do you have a weather radio? I have a Midland 300 -- really great alert system.
We've had our share of tornadoes in the past couple of weeks. The "not knowing" when something might roar into you -- despite all the radar and warnings in the world -- is nerve rattling.
Will be watching with you to see what's going on....
STAY SAFE!

NOAA forecasts 9 to 14 tropical storms this season
By RANDOLPH E. SCHMID
AP Science Writer

Updated: Today [May 22] at 1:30 p.m.
WASHINGTON — Hurricanes will strike the United States this season and Americans must be prepared, federal forecasters said Thursday. They predicted nine to 14 named tropical storms this year.
Current projections call for a near normal year for hurricanes, Gerry Bell, lead Atlantic hurricane forecaster for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, said at a briefing. The named storms are expected to include 4 to 7 hurricanes of which 1 to 3 are likely to be major storms.
"Hurricane season is upon us. We need to communicate down to the personal level, preparedness, now is the time," said National Hurricane Center Director Bill Read.
Have a plan and follow it, he said, waiting to see if the forecast changes can mean life or death.
Added Craig Fugate, head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency: "Hurricanes will make landfall in the United States, hurricanes will destroy homes, people need to heed the preparedness message and be ready to act."
And Commerce Secretary Gary Locke noted that, "Today, more than 35 million Americans live in regions most threatened by Atlantic hurricanes."

Thread wasn't started too soon! FIRST BULLETIN TODAY!
They didn't even test the list or announce that things would be up-and-running come June 1 as they usually do.
Let's jump into the surf and prepare for a big ol' wave. This one's in my backyard, so to speak....

Hey SL...
I'm working hard to lay-off the chocolate (did I just say that??) this season! Trying to find a less-fattening form of comfort food -- maybe (gasp!) fruit of some sort?
Really surprised this one didn't form into a TD in your/i] area. Water off the OBX is chilly even during the hottest of summers. I haven't had time to read the Discussions to get full info. A Weather Channel chick just said the TD holds the distinction of the first formation to originate so far north.
Yep -- we could be in for an interesting season....

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 35 MPH...55 KM/HR...WITH HIGHER GUSTS. THE DEPRESSION COULD BECOME A TROPICAL STORM TONIGHT OR EARLY FRIDAY BEFORE IT MOVES OVER COLDER WATERS. THE SYSTEM IS THEN EXPECTED TO WEAKEN OR DISSIPATE BY SATURDAY.
