Regarding broccoli and meds - be careful. Broccoli can interact with certain meds, such as anticoagulannts such as warfarin/ coumadin, etc because of broccoli's relative high vitamin K content.
When we are to perform an iknteventiona procedure or a surgery on a patient who has long clotting times, we give vitamin K to shorten the clotting factors.
But, if you take an anticoagulant (or even some cardiac meds) and stock up on broccoli, you may be doing even more harm. So, follow the advice and speak to someone who knows about medications - your doctor or pharmacist - and check. Better to be safe than finding out that your artificial heart valve is clogging-up or you're shooting clots because of your diet.......

Same thing with grapefruit juice and certain statins such as Lipitor. Don't mix the two. Bad things will happen.......
Kbot,
Late response but I was going to make a joke out of asking your doctor if you could eat Mustard Greens but I guess there is something to say for mixing certain foods, acidity with some meds.
Did not know that.

Have to be very careful eating raw veggies while undergoing chemo. Eating raw is simply not recommended.
Suppression of the immune system due to chemo drugs can make the patient completely susceptible to spore diseases (fungal infections) for which modern science doesn't have a very large armory of remedies.
Cooked fruit and veggies in the diet are recommended.
Spore diseases can kill someone even six months after the last chemo dose and while being in remission although I think that there is a point at which raw can be reintroduced into the diet way before six months.
