The World's Oldest Temple?

Post by Janus232 » 06-25-2010 02:38 AM

Klaus Schmidt - Göbekli Tepe MP3 - 30:10
"The temple is believed to have been erected in the 10th millennium BC (about 11,500 years ago). It is believed to be the oldest human-made place of worship, it's even been called the Garden of Eden. Only about 3-5% of the site has been excavated so far, which has unveiled several stone circle rooms, only one of which has been dug down to the floor. As many as 20 such structures are thought to exist under the ground at the site, these have been detected by radar scans. These stone circles have large T-shaped pillars, some of the heaviest stones weight up to 50 tons"

Amazing that it so closely mirrors Stonehenge and Avesbury. There's also an ancient site in the Hebrides, I think it is, with the same sort of underground structures, rooms, etc.

As always, another fascinating topic, Janus.

P.S. I can just hear JoeQ laughing and saying, "But it's all so SIMPLE -- how could we have been so clueless? You see . . ."

Gobekli Tepe LMH - C2C - 01-10-2010
"Gobekli Tepe is the smoking gun. There is no way around that.... it’s music – it’s stone music and it resonates! Goethe’s great line: ‘Architecture is frozen music" John A West

Note: Gobekli Tepe was discovered by American Peter Benedict in 1964, but was ignored by American academia.

Saw info on earthfiles last night (9-30) and was discussing it with my husband about how it resembled so many other places.

The limestone is remarkably preserved (so maybe it is a good thing they've been covered for so many years). Will be looking forward to more information and photos.

ancient archeology is very important to all of us.
