Noticed I'm working on a unit from 5/1999. can it be possible this unit has not yet been processed? Heard something a while ago that seti @home was getting too much participation and didn't really want to 'bother' with a lot of it - and were putting out stuff on a loop just to keep folks busy. Do you believe there is any truth to this - and if so, what does it mean?

What's going on at Seti @home lately?

Linnea,
Morgan,
Yes, SETI does have a 'cache' of problematical w/u's...and yes, they are re-cycling redundant w/u's.
I've only seen the barest mention of it at SETI (when I remember where I read it I'll post a link)...but they are ready to begin scanning the Southern Hemisphere...and were going to call it SETI@HomeII, but I believe they decided to retain the current name SAH.
The Northern hemisphere has been covered in it's totality...(that's every possible place to scan!)...and that means that they are breaking out tapes (older ones) to send around some previously completed w/u's.
SETI@Home started out as a graduate Thesis on shared computing...and snowballed so far out of control that they recently redesigned (upgraded) the servers to accomodate the 4.9 MILLION people who use the system regularly.
We can now d/l our w/u's with more speed and ease in connecting...thanks Berkeley for the upgrade that will keep SAH going for a long long time to come.
I just wonder when (if???) they will put a
limit on how many crunchers can participate ?
6 mill, 10 ???...MORE ????
Sheesh !!!
