Art Bell welcomed author Graham Hancock who shared his thesis on how "supernatural" beings interacted with human consciousness from ancient to current times. These entities, who have been known by such names as spirits, fairies and aliens are always "interpenetrating" with our world but normal consciousness is tuned into everyday reality and is not typically aware of them, he said.
Shamans are able to access their interdimensional realms, and other pathways to the supernatuals include fasting, rhythmic dancing, and psychoactive substances such as ayuhuasca, Hancock reported. Dr. Rick Strassman conducted tests with DMT and found that his subjects were traveling to similar places in their mind. DMT, which is naturally produced in small amounts by the pineal gland, might have been "the light that was switched on in the human brain" some 40,000 years ago, theorized Hancock
