Elections? A waste of time. Free speech? That's just so much crazy talk. Autocracy? Hey, why not?
A new Harvard study reveals that millennials in the U.S. and Europe do not think as highly about democracy as their parents do. Only about 30% of millennials it’s essential to live in a democracy. In comparison, about 75% of Americans born in the 1930s thought democracy was essential.
Only around a third of US millennials see civil rights as “absolutely essential” in a democracy, compared with 41% among older Americans. In the European Union, it’s 39% and 45%, respectively.
More than a quarter of US millennials dismiss the importance of free elections to democracy. (Though rates are overall lower in Europe, millennials also agree at higher rates than older generations.)
The study shows, across the board, citizens of stable liberal democracies have grown jaded about their government—and worse. In fact, so rampant is democratic indifference and disengagement among millennials that a shocking share of them are open to trying something new—like, say, government by military coup. FULL STORY

Re: Democracy, Meh?
Contrary to a popular myth that keeps getting more twisted. We are A Representative Republic. A fact getting lost very quickly, it is not taught! As we are quickly evolving into Anarchy. Which means "I love rule of law....for others, I'm Special and so are my causes!"
A Representative Republic Is Not A Democracy
Contrary to frequent descriptions, America is still a representative Republic, not a Democracy. In a Democracy, majority or mob rule prevails, so whenever 51% of voters want something, they get it. Occupiers actually don’t comprise 51% of voters, but that does not keep them from trying to make demands as if they do. They certainly are not the 99% they claim to be, as 53% of Americans are paying the taxes which provide the money which government spends.ought These clearly uninformed participants call for taxing the “greedy rich” at 100%, free college education, an end to corporate personhood, government-provided jobs for all, an end to all fossil fuels, equal distribution of income, and open borders, for instance. Occupy has no unified message, refusing to list formal demands, but allowing anyone to post their radical ideas on their website for inspiration.
A group such as this, if in power in a Democracy, rules by mob action in its own interests. The unions and radical organizations which have attached themselves to the movement and used the initial demonstrators for their own purposes would have free rein to impose their agenda. This of course couldn’t last forever, as the money paying for all their demands runs out and chaos eventually ensues, as any good revolutionary knows. As a frightened and weary citizenry begs for relief, government can then step in, promising to save the day and make the chaos go away through government intervention. This scenario comes right out of Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals, the how-to handbook for collapsing capitalism.

Out of 300 odd million people a handful of people burn the flag. Me thinks the US has more to worry about. Trump is the master of silly distractions.

Even if it's only a relative handful it's not a good idea to let folks run around torching U.S. flags - Any number of politicians who wrap themselves in the Red White and Blue could get seriously extra crispy!!Raggedyann wrote:Out of 300 odd million people a handful of people burn the flag.
