NYC goes 9 days without homicides

Post by whskyfan » 01-27-2013 09:45 AM

New York City has some of the most stringent gun laws in the United States and people are demonstrating for more?

Hundreds march across the Brooklyn Bridge as they take part in the "One Million Moms For Gun Control" demonstration on Monday, January 21, 2013 in New York City. Protestors are calling for reforms of gun control laws such as a ban on assault weapons following last month's massacre in Newtown, Connecticut. NEW YORK, Jan. 26 (UPI) -- NEW YORK, Jan. 26 (UPI) -- Freezing temperatures in New York City appear to have cut the crime rate in the Big Apple with no homicides reported for nine days, police said.

The New York Post cited police sources who said that as of midnight Friday no killings had been reported since Jan. 16. That was the day Jennifer Rivera, 20, and her uncle, Jason Rivera, 30, were shot execution-style in The Bronx in a killing police say may be drug-related.

Pretty pathetic and scary when it takes a freeze to keep them in - probably roasting marshmallows and drinking hot chocolate.

Meanwhile, some 800 miles west and 90 miles north, in Milwaukee the county sheriff's office has released a public service announcement urging citizens to arm themselves for their own personal safety.

Quoting Sheriff David Clarke from the PSA, “With officers laid off and furloughed, simply calling 911 and waiting is no longer your best option. You could beg for mercy from a violent criminal, hide under the bed, or you can fight back. But are you prepared?”

He ends the message by saying, “You have a duty to protect yourself and your family. We’re partners now. Can I count on you?”

That's a good question - now, insomuch as there's NOT been organized massive protests for more restrictions on legal weapon and ammo possession like there's been in NYC, he may find folks in the greater Milwaukee area more receptive to his idea.

At the same time, seems to me those folks intentionally and habitually operating ouside the law wouldn't like it at all if the odds of their victims defending themselves in a capable manner dramatically 'shot up' (pun intended).

I doubt Sheriff Clarke can count on EVERY law-abiding citizen to take him up on his suggestion, but as it is the county's criminal population can be sure some will. Beyond the required classes, some may even practice to be skilled marksmen. Perps who pick the wrong place and time for their dirty work could be in for a big surprise...

So, there ya go, Milwaukeeans! Support the ULITIMATE IN "Gun Control" - Become a responsible firearm owner and user.

My little town newspaper came out today in a total "tizzy" about our sheriff defying the Federal Government. These people have never read the Constitution of the United States! And a sheriff is really the only thing that we the people have to protect us. When sworn in he or she swears to uphold the Constitution. I have no idea where this might end, well I do sort of, think, that it won't be long before the Constitution is overturned. I don't think "O" will rest until it is so.:(

The constitution does not need to be changed for states to ban guns.

Besides states passing bans, it's well within the power of local governments to regulate gun ownership too.

Still, I have to wonder, would ending all legal possession of firearms end gun violence once and for all?

Only one way to find out - As it is, I have no problem with the Big Apple going first.

We'll see how well that works out for THEM compared to Milwaukee.

Do cops shoot people for no reason? Yes. Are they legally allowed to own guns? Yes.

I was just saying that the constitution has little do with gun control really - it just says the feds should not interfere, but then the feds should not interfere anyways since it is state rights to make laws.

Well, there ya go. Looks like a total ban on civilian firearm ownership won't stop gun violence.

Worse, if there IS any serious concern that cops shoot people for no reason, what that says is they can't be trusted.

Nice. We can't trust the police, YET let's have it so only they can legally own and carry guns -

No doubt THAT's going to end well (...'well' from the perspective of "The State," that is)!

You can throw Chicago in that mix as well - one of the young girls, an honor student who performed at the inauguration was just shot while at Kenwood park with friends.

But lets not even try to solve that problem because it's too difficult and complex. Besides grandstanding is so much fun and good for the ego.

Relative to Chicago and gun laws - seems like the folks we pay to work for us can't seem to do their homework:

I wonder if Cuomo did any research at all - NOT
