Remains of 72 people found at World Trade Center site

New York City officials say a renewed search this year of debris in and around the World Trade Center site has recovered 72 human remains.
The sifting of more than 800 cubic yards (612 cubic meters) of debris recovered from ground zero and underneath roads around the lower Manhattan site began in April and ended Friday.

The greatest number of remains – 37 – were found from material underneath West Street, a highway on the west side of ground zero. The new debris was uncovered as construction work made new parts of the site accessible

The city began a renewed search for human remains in 2006. More than 1,800 remains have been found.

Some have been matched to previously unidentified 9/11 victims.

I wonder at this point if they will be able to identify anyone, it would be nice if their families could put them to rest properly.

Oh, God bless them. If they can identify the remains, what a wonderful thing that will be for the families....

Already, the ghost stories around 9/11 are starting to appear:

How long, I wonder, will it be before some two-year-old kid starts to have nightmares of jumping out of a window in a a previous life in order to escape the fire? You know it's coming...

I was stalked, and had to get a restraining order against someone who then went to NYC, and hasn't been seen or heard from, since the buildings fell down... Would it be wrong if I hope his remains are found and identified?

No -- that wouldn't be wrong, Bobbi. I can understand how you feel.

Just so he's not reincarnated during your lifetime, per Joe's thoughts (which I believe is spot on).

This would be a good project for BONES - the tv series type people.

I do hope that they are able to identify the remains for the sake of the families.
