Thank you for the link Setislady,
I am pretty familiar with the crimes themselves, but not the roles of the individual players. Wikipedia is a tremendous resource, so I imagine I will have much reading to do tonight.

I think you misunderstood what I said or I am misunderstanding you, its been a long day. I was being sarcastic, she showed no compassion towards the victims, I can't find any compassion for her.Kaztronic wrote: It would be a shame if we based our compassion as a society on the compassion of people who commit heinous crimes. It is a poor justification.

I see there have been some exchanges in the time time it took me to process this. Kaz, you are a treasure. Don't blow it with drama, okay? Take it from a fellow GLBT.......
Did you ever stop to think, and then forget to start again?
No worries Setislady:)
I hear ya about the sarcasm bit and am often tempted to say, and in fact have said the same thing about "treat them as they treated their victims". So, it wasn't directed at you, just a comment in general about society, myself included.
Meanwhile, read the wiki article, the fact that at least one relative of Sharon Tate has come out against early release is all I needed to hear, so I don't think she should be released either. You were absolutely right when you said the compassion should lie with the families of the victims, and if they are not comfortable with early release, if it would cause them more grief, then Susan Atkins should remain in prison, at least in my opinion.

I have no idea what being Gay has to do with this.

I was around when these murders ocurred, and, read Helter Skelter. I know the deed was barbaric. I also know myself. I know if I come face to face with any suffering creature, it isn't in me to hold fast to what I know is logical. That's all I'm saying. If I faced her, and held her fate in my hands, I would be compassionate despite her past.
Chickadee, every time you bring up the "face to face" issue, it swings the pendulum right back for me. I too cannot say that I would have it in me to go with logic in that case.
My brain tells me she should serve out her sentence and die in prison, especially given the wishes of the victims families, but if I were in a room with her, face to face......... I don't know.

Thanks, you guess. My compliment didn't register, apparently.
Is this why women like me don't like men like you? Gay has nothing to do with this. Just trying to bond. Ouch.
Chickadee, I was a little kid when this happened. Yet, it continues to be indelible in my mind. These people were monsters. Even by today's standards.
Having said that, yer view is appreciated......
Did you ever stop to think, and then forget to start again?
I wasn't sure if you were trying to bond, or suggest I was a drama queen, LoL.
Sorry for my confusion, and thanks!
