Bush Wants $50 Billion More for Iraq War

Post by SETIsLady » 08-30-2007 06:25 AM

President Bush plans to ask Congress next month for up to $50 billion in additional funding for the war in Iraq, a White House official said yesterday, a move that appears to reflect increasing administration confidence that it can fend off congressional calls for a rapid drawdown of U.S. forces.

The request -- which would come on top of about $460 billion in the fiscal 2008 defense budget and $147 billion in a pending supplemental bill to fund the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq -- is expected to be announced after congressional hearings scheduled for mid-September featuring the two top U.S. officials in Iraq. Army Gen. David H. Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan C. Crocker will assess the state of the war and the effect of the new strategy the U.S. military has pursued this year.

And will Congress give it to him? Probably. They have as yet to stand up to this administration in any meaningful way. Our future is in grave danger, we will be paying for this fiasco for generations and our "Representatives" do nothing about it. These people do not represent us at all.

Lets see:

Germany - still there
Japan - still there
South Korea - still there
Kosovo - still there (after Clinton said we would only be there a year)

What would ever make you think we are ever going to pull out of Iraq?

You are right that our future may be in grave danger. We have an ideology/religion that wants us dead. Not because we are over there, not because of our influence in the area, but because we are not of their religion and must die because of it. There is no negotiation or appeasement possible with these people. They are determined to wipe out our way of life.

I love how Bush pontificates on the subject of not allowing the 'democrats' to raise taxes, and yet he is sucking this country completely dry! The word hypocrite doesn't even begin to describe this president, and the word disgust comes to mind when I think about the do-nothing so-called representatives in Washington, D.C.! And now we will have to put up with months and months of pure bullsh!t from both sides of the campaigning democrats and republicans yet again! Is there an honest man or woman anywhere in politics?

I just posted this in the "body count" thread. This is the figure as of Tuesday on the money spent on this war:
COST OF THE WAR SO FAR (ROUNDED TO THE NEAREST MILLION): $455,907,000,000
Apparently our illustrious leader wants to raise it to half a trillion plus dollars???
It would be bad enough if it was taxpayer monies going into it, but it is all "floated" on borrowed money. In other words, your children, grandchildren and probably grandchildren (if we all survive, which is questionable) will work their low paying "service sector" job (which is all we are going to have in this country) to pay for this war.
