The Monster Inside The Republican Machine

Post by SETIsLady » 10-03-2006 11:10 AM

I got in trouble once for calling Matt Drudge a first class scumbag. At the time I thought maybe I had gone too far, let my emotions get the better of me. I like to give people the benefit of the doubt. But it turns out I hadn't gone too far. It turns out Matt Drudge is a scumbag of the worst kind, the kind that blames the victims of sexual abuse.

Matt Drudge actually refers to the children who were preyed upon by Mark Foley as "16 and 17 year old beasts". He also says, "they (the pages) were talking about how many times they'd masturbated, how many times they'd done it with their girlfriends this weekend...all these things and these innocent children. And this poor congressman sitting there typing, oh am I going to get any, you know?"

What we're seeing here, through the prism of this lone sexual predator, is the monster inside the machine. First you have the Republican Congressional leadership, so power hungry, so desperate to hold a seat at any cost, that they cover Mark Foley's tracks for at least a year. The revelation of the coverup is followed almost immediately by the Right Wing Message Machine, with Fox News' Brit Hume comparing Foley to Bill Clinton and John Gibson trying to equate the current scandal to previous House scandals more than 20 years old. Bill O'Reilly tries to make Foley's actions just a by-product of Foley's homosexuality.

Matt Drudge takes all of this to a deeper, darker place, and perhaps it's logical conclusion. Matt Drudge, like the Republican leadership and the Fox News commentators, is so single minded and addicted to power that he's willing to blame the children themselves.

This is how upside down and wretched their world has become. They blame the children for the actions of adults. And it's no different from the mindset that blames other countries for our failure to find weapons of mass destruction, a mindset that cannot ever accept responsibility, it's just more obvious.

One has to believe that the right wing media, falling over themselves to protect their masters, will also suffer from the credibility they are squandering so recklessly. I have to believe that even the most dedicated Ditto-head will hesitate to believe that it's the adults that need to be protected from the children. After all, Republican Congressman Mark Foley did try to actually meet with the youth. After all, what is law and order if we can't protect our children from those that would abuse them? And adults that want to look away while children are abused are guilty of abuse themselves.

But, on the other hand, there is this...

http://smirkingchimp.com/thread/1312

Here's the opening paragraph as an appetizer:

"It’s rare when a scandal hits Washington that’s actually enjoyable to follow, but Mark Foley has really put the punch back in politics. Who would have guessed that after 6 years of slaughtering and torturing people in their own countries, the American people could be so incensed about one rogue congressman bumping boys in his off-hours. It just shows what trivial people we’ve become."

Huffington has an opinion, Drudge has an opinion -- both right, both wrong.

from a small town newspaper opinion page editorial:
"This is neither a GOP or a DEM situation as a singularity but a public one that belongs to everyone regardless of their political connections or lack thereof.

Society must also take responsibility for these raunchy publications. Society seeks it out in total rapture and finger pointing. OH look 'see this, see how horrible this is' (snip) look at this old man writing this junk to teenage boys. As if the old man was the one who is totally responsible for what the teenage boys suddenly are writing? Sorry, but why are we buying it. WHY, because teenagers who are not even connected to politicians are doing the same things. They just aren't published all over the media.

Take a good close look around at the media discussions about teenagers and pedofiles in teen chats, both the older men and yes older women. Take a look at tv shows that show bed hopping sexuality going on as if it were totally accepted and yes between older and younger adults both men and women. Take a look at the magazines and books and child pornography that is all over the internet and accepted by other nations as perfectly normal.

Is it any wonder that we have these types of things going on? Is it right? Not only NO but (censored) no! But what are WE doing about it? We'll rant and rave about a GOP bad guy, a DEM bad guy, an older teacher with younger child, an intern, a married person in adulterous relationships. Thats as far as we go - - - RANTINGS and RAVINGS."

I still haven't heard your Clinton defense. As a non- partisan, I would apreciate hearing your view.

Or, maybe I could check out the archives...

OK, let me get this straight. First it was the dirty-minded underage teenager that lured and trapped that poor family values Republican congressman into demonic behavior.

Now it's the media's fault.

What's your solution? Never mind, I already know what it is. You've offered up your solution to the media before.

Elimination of Free speech. Complete and utter draconian censorship. Harsh fines and imprisonment for anyone in the media that opposes such strict regulation.

Janet Jackson's breast flash was tantamount to an atomic bomb going off in downtown Joplin. A congressman pedophile molesting a child on the floor of the capital building was just kids being kids.

I get sicker every time I read the apologists rushing to the defense of such terribly sadistic behavior by members of their own political party. You should be ashamed of yourself.

But somehow I think that maybe you're not.

I guess if Rush and the Speaker of the House aren't then why should their vassals.

Oh they've been dragging up Clinton and a gay congressman from 25 years ago. Dragging their dead bodies behind a pick-up truck and desperately pointing, "Look, look, please for the love of God look behind us. Can't you see? Don't look at us but look at these corpses, please!"

Desperation. Pure desperation.

I hope people recognize that to claim that Republicans are the dreadful evil ones for being involved in this stuff is pure stupidity...both sides are...and that the only thing being proven (for the four hundredth or so time this year) is that both parties are corrupt to the core. Or have people forgotten the former President sold nuclear technology to the Chinese Empire for campaign cash.

As an aside, the Imperials would've done better to have exoriated Foley the moment it was obvious what he was involved in, as there are certain crimes that make Americans get loco on, and others that they don't bat an eye at.

But instead they chose to bury it. A cover-up if you will. Is this forgiveable?

Are the ones who try to cover-up child molestation just as guilty as the child molester?

No, Cherry, society doesn't have to take any responsibility for this at all. Nor does the Democratic party. This is Foley's responsibility, and the responsibility of those in the Republican party who knowingly covered it up and allowed it to continue.

If a teenage boy came on to you, wrote you lurid emails, would YOU bite and play that game with him? And if you did, would it in any way or shape be anyone's fault but yours?

If YOU know of a congressman preying on mionors, would YOU keep quiet about it and allow it to continue because you didn't want to embarrass your party?

From your post, it appears your answers would be YES. Care to correct this?

As far as I'm concerned, even if a teenager disrobes and dances the hootchie koo in front of an adult, that adult should *not* play that game. That adult should leave the vicinity and thereafter avoid that child. If that child was your page, you should have him/her transferred to a different department/building/whatever it takes. And in some cases, maybe all cases, you should report the child's behavior to his or her parents and let them deal with it. But under NO circumstances should you take advantage of the situation.

THAT is having decent morals AND obeying the law. Nothing else is acceptable.

Yes, both parties have their flaws, no doubt about it. However, sex scandals among leading Democrats have been exceedingly rare. Sex scandals among leading Republicans have been common. If you think I'm wrong, that's okay. Then please list the Democratic leaders that have been caught in sex scandals. Others have already posted the very long list of Republican sex criminals, and you can also consult this thread for the history:
showthread.php?s=&threadid=14947&highlight=Guckert

That's just the facts.

And yes, there is corruption in both parties, but it's not equal there, either. The Republicans get the prize for corruption.

That said, I don't care who they are, if they're corrupt they need to be prosecuted accordingly, and kicked out of their positions of power.

Is the Democratic party going to save us? No way. But it's a pretty strong educated guess that they'll at least slow the destruction of our country down considerably, reversing some of the damage, and buying us more time to reach real solutions to our problems.

The Republican Party must be reeling and one wonders just when the next shoe will drop. In Southern California's San Gabriel Valley is a Republican representative, David Drier, who has lately worn the Romulan Cloak of Invisibility. Why?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Drier

David Drier and his live-in- boyfriend- chief of staff Brad Smith are a gay couple living high on the taxpayer's dole. Brad earned a 2004 salary of $156,000 and travel the world on congressional trips which are never to places like Cleveland or Yellowknife up in northern Canada. Drier, a.k.a dapper David who has been a GQ magazine award winner consistantly votes on Republican "God bless America" family values bills during election time as well as promoting illegal alien bills he knows will never pass but make him look good to the electorate. Drier's hypocracy knows no bounds. Until the Mark Foley scandal erupted, there was never a TV interview Drier didn't appear on.

I don't care whether I hyperventilate over a blond babe in a Tampa cheerleader outfit and David Drier does so over the Village People, but at least be honest to the taxpayer. That "romantic" Paris weekend with your boyfriend cost us plenty.
