Art on Facebook:

"Sometimes when you are "all in" you win, sometimes lose. By mutual agreement Dark Matter will no longer air as of tonight."

Can someone explain this to me?

OK, I confused.

I'm also working on about two hour's sleep and on muscle relaxers, but what the heck.........

What did I miss? I thought the show was going well, considering that Art's been out of the game for a while now.

I knew there was a good reason I didn't actually pay for a subscription.

The day off last week (or whenever it was) because of his "bad back" was the big tip-off.

indeed it seems so. I don't buy the story about wanting to stream for free either, he knows that is not going to happen.

Art Bell had the audacity to demand SirusXM allow Art to stream the live show for free on his website.
They didn't cave in (as everyone but Art expected) and Art decided he would take his ball and go home like a quitter.

I have a feeling he wanted out anyways and used that as an excuse. He knew that could not happen.

If it is true, the lesson is if you don't own your stuff you can't do with it as you please. However, Art knows how copyright and licensing work.

I have some knowledge of what he is thinking but I am still pissed at this stunt.
He is considering doing a show live but streaming from his website. Now I don't know how long this will take but that is the info I'm getting.

Yeah, why not? Except no one would pay him. Still, he could probably make it work somehow. Kind of like pop artists who can go afford to go indie because of their previous corporate support.

The funny thing is, independent artists don't stick to doing that for very long...there's been a history of these guys eventually signing up w/ a new label...the fact is, there's just not a lot of systems that really work out there in the "new media"...if Art does another internet streaming podcast, he'd just be another in a cast of thousands doing exactly the same...would he want to do that?

Podcasts can work, pretty much all I listen to now are independent podcasts who are all doing very well for themselves (ie look at rev3, twit, no agenda, etc). Some have ads, some take donations.

However, with all respect to him, Keith Rowland is not going to make this happen. It is not the old world, it takes "new media" people. I am not claiming I could make this work either, other than technically. You need a serious awesome marketer/sales person more than anything.
