'All I Want for Christmas Is You' Tops Playlist

If you think you've been hearing "All I Want for Christmas Is You" more often this holiday season, you are not imagining it.

Mariah Carey's hit, co-written with Walter Afanasieff, tops a new list of most played Christmas songs released by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, a membership organization of songwriters, composers and music publishers.

Here's the Top Ten on ASCAP's holiday hit parade this year, based on streaming and terrestrial radio data gathered from Aug. 7-Nov. 19, with copyright year in parentheses:

1. "All I Want for Christmas Is You" (1994)

2. "A Holly Jolly Christmas" (1962)

3. "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!" (1945)

4. "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" (1958)

5. "Last Christmas" (1984)

6. "Jingle Bell Rock" (1957)

7. "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" (1963)

8. "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas" (1951)

9. "Sleigh Ride" (1951)

10. "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" (1949)

ASCAP is one of several organizations that represent songwriters' rights.

"All I Want for Christmas Is You" is also climbing Music Reports' list of most-recorded holiday songs, which is dominated by traditional classics.

According to Music Reports, the Carey-Afanasieff tune has been recorded 13,419 times, placing it at No. 30.
