"The SUPER SIX" Song by Gary Lewis & The Playb

Post by Riddick » 11-18-2011 02:55 PM

8 Gold Singles. 17 Top 40 Hits. 4 Gold Albums. 45 Million records sold worldwide -

Impressive resume Gary Lewis and the Playboys racked up there way back when, eh?

Yet, one work often omitted (& shamefully so!) from lists of their musical accomplishments is the theme tune they did for the De-Patie Freleng animation studio's very first entry into the pantheon of cartoons designated for the tykes who typically made up the Saturday morning TV audience.

Such as was the fad at the time the show featured the adventures of a team of super-heroic crime-fighters consisting of Elevator Man, Super Scuba, Granite Man, Magneto Man, Captain Whammo and Super Bwoing...

As it is with only one season produced, would you believe some 45 years later if mention of the show prompts any recollections from folks who grew up on cartoons in the 1960's, it's seldom anything other THAN the theme?

It's catchy! It's hip! And it's memorable -
in its own "Super 6" sort of way, of course:

ZIP! ZAM! ZOWIE! And SWOOSH! :D

Narrated by a guy who sounds like Ed Sabol.

Here's one featuring 'Ollie bin Loud Mouth' versus the 'matzorileys'. Would that make the scene somewhere in North Africa?
