Radio talk

Post by Linnea » 07-29-2003 11:09 AM

Hiya John - Yes, that was quite an interview on C2C the other night. Of course, I couldn't follow along on a lot of it. Fascinating though - radio and electronics. In fact, we have a thread here on the forum for radios, ham radio, etc... Would be great if you joined us there. We could use some more information on radios, electronics, propagation, theory.... I am going to copy this thread you've started over there - and just leave this copy up here.

Hope to see you there - 'Ham Radio' thread :D

Hi John. I've collected a few military tube radios myself. One of the more interesting sets I have is a GRC-109 clandestine operation set. I even have the tone burst keyer with the encryption devices. Those are probably a little rare. It would make an interesting ham rig, although the transmitter is crystal tuned. Hope to talk to you some more.

Hi again John. Now I remember your show. When I was listening to it I thought of a gadget I bought on Ebay a while ago. It's a kit for an ambient power module. It's basically a broadband RF rectifier. I haven't put it together yet but it will be interesting to see if it works. I live in a small town so I'm sure there's not as much ambient RF as there would be in a large city but it might still produce a little voltage. I remember you mentioning Fair Radio Sales on the show several times. I've bought a few things from them and I keep an eye on their website for interesting stuff.

Hi John. That's quite a toy, a plasma cannon. I remember that my father worked on a rail gun project during the 'star wars' program. He didn't talk too much about it though. From what I could gather it used an EM field to accelerate a projectile to a very high speed. They used a 357 handgun as one of the test sources and I think they also used bullets made of lucite. I think I have one of these at home somewhere as well as several pictures of the project. I don't know what became of the project but it seemed like they were interested in both space and ground applications.

4 main items electrostatics magnetics hi dc energy and proper engineering would need to place it within an enviroment that helps the electrostatics would be heavy but not impossable
