Post subject: Pahrump Receiver Temporarily Off-Line

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A hard disk failed in the computer Art Bell uses to stream audio from his receiver in Pahrump, Nevada to the S-Meter site near Salt Lake City, Utah. Repair is in progress. Service will be restored as soon as possible.

I love DXing! I am now lucky to live in the high desert of NORTHERN Nevada where the reception is great, especially at night. I need to setup some good antennas, as I have some great radio gear to attach it to. In the meantime, I use the Internet to listen to some HAMS.

Hiya, gshome!

Wondering what part of Northern Nevada you are near? Interested in that part of the country. See any Bristlecone Pines? They are a fascinating life form, with some of these trees now about 4000 years old. Incredible.

Just started listening to the smeter site a few days ago even though I've had it bookmarked for about 6 months now. Sounds great tonight. haven't heard Art yet tonight, unless he sounds totally different on this media.

I've wanted to get into amateur radio for a while, and plan to start up this summer.

Linnea, Bristlecone Pines are also living in the Spring Mountain Range in southern Nevada outside of Las Vegas.

A few 'sky-islands' have them in the southwest.

What is a 'Sky Island'? A mountain top or plateau?
