An auto tuner is a good idea. I have a manual tuner with an adjustable inductor so there are three knobs to manipulate in order to get the SWR down. I've been eyeballing an auto tuner made by LDG. They sell it in kit form for $180. It's tempting. Also I found I could hit the K7PP repeater link from here. I talked to K7PP himself and my signal was readable with a little distortion. So we could make contact on that link.
