my name is Dale, in Torrance CA... thanks for all the encouragement and congratulations. I owe a large part of it to reading the posts here, and making up my mind to just do it.

Sorry I have not checked in. I severely damaged my R wrist and forearm in a fall and it (and the pain pills!) have slowed me a bit. Still in a brace after about 4 weeks. Just getting back to the political threads etc.

I am taking my exam next Sat. (06-21) :D

So excited and READY! (Being gimped up and not being able to do anything but study has it's advantages. ;) )

You will be the second to know how I did. My 84 year old Dad has had to put up with my blather and moodiness with the wrist bit and the non stop HAM talk so he gets to be first. Poor guy, I think he has taken to turning down his hearing aids when he sees me coming! (I live right next door).

SUPER CONGRATS all you new offical HAMS! Gwen - MeesterCranky - and of course you too Linniea (and for the kick in the butt - Thanks)

Mudwoman - sorry to hear you are still afflicted from your fall into the pond. Great you will soon get your Tech license. I have faith in you. Are you going for the General as well? Code? You may surprise us! :D

We should all get code keyers for our rigs, when we get set up - and try to do some qrp - code qsos. We would need to get on a HF band to get contacts at any distance. Minimum send and receive - 5wpm - heh ;) I need to get back to code practice.

Good luck with your test, mudwoman. You will succeed...

Mudwoman, I will be sending you positive thoughts and good wishes on the 21st. You will do fine. I was so sure I would fail, that I took an extra $12 so I could beg them to let me take the test again if I flunked.

My Call Sign!!

Post by MeesterCranky » 06-21-2003 12:13 AM

and the call granted to me is... KG6RPO

I wish to thank the members of the FF who inspired me to do this on such a short time table.

I intend to get a vanity callsign and put my dad's old sign on the air again.. but right now I am in the middle of a move and can't get to his old paperwork!

Anyone else, who, like me, thought it was too far out of their league, etc... you can do it! Despite being the son of an electronic engineer who sent experiments to the moon, I knew next to NOTHING about this going in. So, if I can pass in four weeks of studying, so can you!

73 to FF Pirates!

Hey - KG6RPO! Congrats! AS for your Dad's call sign - I believe you can look it up in QRZ? Maybe not though - if it had not been renewed in a while. Anyway - I believe you would be allowed to use your Dad's call sign, without having to buy a vanity license for it - because you are keeping it in the family. I read some information about this on either the arrl.org or qrz.com website.

Waiting for mudwoman to check in! Hopefully with good news!

KG6RPO - Cool MeesterCranky! :D

Took my tech exam today. I was so nervous! I answered them all correctly so maybe the nerves worked to my advantage.

I can hardly wait till I get my call sign.

A great big 73 and HUGS to all! Thanks for the support. :D

Gwen - KD7WJO :D - I picked up a RS HTX-100, excellent working condition, still in box on eBay for $25.00. I am looking for a Versa Tuner (MFJ 949-D) and will find one cheap if I am patient. Got the antenna gear staked out on eBay too. I don't know what I would do with out eBay. ;)
