Is a Convention of States Politically Possible?

Post by Doka » 11-14-2013 09:05 AM

Mark Levin's book, The Liberty Amendments, has sparked the hope that American citizens can save the Republic by calling a Convention of States under Article V. Two classes of naysayers have arisen. First, there are those, like my dear friend Phyllis Schlafly, who argue that using the power of the states under Article V is dangerous and could result in a runaway convention. Professor Rob Natelson has decisively answered this contention here. James W. Lucas represents the second class of critic -- those who contend that it is politically impossible to call a convention, draft amendments, and send them out for ratification. The Convention of States has progressed since this article was written. I have no idea if it could be pulled off. What do you think?

Hmm 2/3rds of the states... I think is what is required....

not sure, but within states they could do RECALLs of elected officials... which might be the better way to go - to recall the elected who have created problems....

and States could term limit their House and Senate reps ... with enough votes ... and petitions to get it on the ballot - or at state level - get their congresses to do so...

Short answer: No. In fact it's been actively and illegally suppressed.

I did a big post on it years ago, lemme see if I can find it.

That would be great Squid, if you can find it. It is my understanding that it is just about as "pure" constitution as you can get. Illegal, suppressed or what ever. The meeting is on for sometime in Dec. May what ever power there is looking over us, I hope those brave people are kept safe!

Hey, Cherry Kelly, where are you finding your info? Sounds like you are into some good stuff, do you have a link or are you like me, getting a lot of it off the radio? I don't know if it is just me, but a lot good info has disappeared off the web.

Doka -- from an old history book... do mean OLD - was only 48 states at the time.

Haven't looked lately to see if things have changed.
