Oh, and get this: the protester arrested at the Allen West townhall today was...guess who?

A former host of Air America.
One protester was just arrested at Congressman Allen West’s Fort Lauderdale town hall meeting.

Nicole Sandler of Coral Springs interrupted when West was explaining the Republican position on Medicare.

Sandler shouted a question, which prompted responses from other audience members: “Shut up lady.”

She didn’t stop. As people recorded the scene with their camera phones, she was escorted out by a Fort Lauderdale police officer.

Sandler objected to being asked to leave, arguing with the officer as he escorted her out, including emphatically cursing at him. Ultimately he arrested her for “trespass after warning” and transferred her to another police officer who took Sandler away.

Sandler used to be a host on the now defunct Air America liberal radio network.

Nicole Sandler of Coral Springs
I hate to tell West this but this is one of his constituents. They don't have to agree with him. They are allowed to protest. But apparently not in Wests world.

So in West's world anyone that disagrees with him in these areas that he is PAID to represent should keep their mouths shut.
Profile: 22nd Congressional District

In Broward County, the 22nd Congressional District runs along the coast from Deerfield Beach to Fort Lauderdale, including Pompano Beach, Hillsboro Beach, Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Sea Ranch Lakes, Lighthouse Point, and parts of Coral Springs, Parkland, Cooper City, Davie and Plantation. About 41 percent of the voters live in Broward.

In Palm Beach County it runs along the coast from Jupiter to Boca Raton, reaching inland to Jupiter Farms, Palm Beach Gardens, Atlantis and The Acreage. About 59 percent of the voters are Palm Beach County residents.

Registered voters: 37.1 percent Democratic, 36.8 percent Republican, 26.1 percent no party affiliation and assorted third parties

Jeez, am I on ignore or not? :D

The point is, she's not a Teabagger; so the earlier statements implying that the Teabaggers are turning against the GOP in these townhalls are wrong. That's what we were talking about, remember? Instead, the rest of the crowd is loudly and demonstrably on West's side.

And the numbers are not wrong, its just the GOP isn't used to people speaking against them. Get used to it, its going to get louder.

SETIsLady wrote: Really Kaz, I haven't heard about that please enlighten me. Or is this just a rumor. We have the GOP on record voting for Medicare and I hope Harry Reid brings it for a vote in the Senate. Please tell me what you are talking about because I really have heard nothing about it.

Here is an article, note the vague details - and also note that these cuts are in addition to the massive cuts to these programs the Democrats already promised as a part of Healthcare Reform. You cannot possibly make cuts this big without impacting services - that is reality, and the language is right there when they speak of "managing" those who use "a lot of" prescriptions, rewarding "efficiency", etc.....

The message here is that the cuts are coming, and while the policies of one party may be less painful than those of the other, the cuts are going to come regardless - partially because we are ignoring, utterly ignoring the fact that BOTH parties are moving forward with plans to cut these programs by hundreds of billions of dollars in upcoming years.

Personally, I prefer trusting these particular programs to Democrats, but feel obligated to point out that NO Republican President could ever pull off proposing cuts to Medicare and Medicaid in the realm of hundreds of billions of dollars as Obama is doing. Democrats would ensure that such a Republican President would have HELL TO PAY (rightly so). It is a crying shame that the dreams of the Republican party on this issue will be realized by a Democratic President, whose own proposals to cut these programs while offering few specifics are not being held to account by those who are too focused on the opposition to realize their own party is quite ready and willing to sell out to the same interests that control the Republicans.

CNN

I wont link to other forums, but Daily Kos has a petition up on their site for like-minded Progressives to fight back against the proposed cuts put forth by Obama, cuts that only ensure the Republican party will once again win key concessions from this President on issues such as this. I would be happy to e-mail a link however should you wish to sign it and help hold this President accountable to maintaining these programs. The good news is that they are up to over 100,000 signatures.

There was alot of speculation about his speech before it happened, Much of it was not true. The Petition you refer to was before his speech I would like to see something concrete that you are referring to please.

I don't normally read the Koz but I am actively involved in Bold Progressives.

Note the key word IF

President Obama: If you cut Medicare and Medicaid benefits for me, my parents, my grandparents, or families like mine, don't ask for a penny of my money or an hour of my time in 2012. I'm going to focus on electing bold progressive candidates -- not Democrats who help Republicans make harmful cuts to key programs.Sign the petition

This is what you call a "pre-emptive" strike. So please point me to specifics so I can see where you are coming from.
