Democrats: GOP rules will cost $1 trillion

Okay, GOP is now in control in the House. I've listened in to some of the ceremony. Not too sure what the focus is. This article from Politico does not bode well. Anyone understand the ins and outs of the budgeting here?

Top Senate Democrats fired a shot across the Capitol on Thursday, warning that new rules passed by the Republican-controlled House a day earlier would actually “balloon” the deficit by $1 trillion.

Republicans, who formally took control of the lower chamber Wednesday vowing a renewed focus on deficit reduction, want to permanently extend estate and income tax cuts for millionaires, give businesses new tax breaks and repeal the health care law — all things that Democrats say will increase the deficit.

“They want to do all this — very nice — but they want to charge it all to Uncle Sam’s credit card,” New York Sen. Chuck Schumer, who heads policy and messaging for Senate Democrats, said at a news conference. “They don’t want to pay for it.”

The dig is the latest in a string of attacks from Senate Democrats against GOP House members in the first two days of the new Congress, setting up a fight across chambers, rather than with Sen. Mitch McConnell, the Republican leader in the Senate.

A Democratic budget analysis, based on figures from the Joint Committee on Taxation and Congressional Budget Office, found that new GOP House rules would swell the deficit by $1.07 trillion. A CBO report out Thursday revealed that repealing the health care law would increase the deficit by $230 billion through 2021.

Good article here on CNN Ticker on Clinton and the Sec State Position beyond 2012.

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/20 ... e-in-2012/

Seems Hillary Clinton is ready to get back to private life after all these years in public service/the public arena.

Do you believe it? I am inclined to believe her. Public life can not be easy, and who knows - she may become a grandmother in the next couple years. ;)

And - we know how grandmothers can be...

A new Public Policy Polling survey finds Democrats leading the generic congressional ballot by four points, 45% to 41%, an 11 point swing since the November elections. Democrats also hold a seven point lead, 38% to 31%, among independent voters.

The poll also finds House Speaker John Boehner's approval rating sinking into negative territory, 28% to 30%.

Ron Paul Wins 2011 CPAC Straw Poll

...from TalkingPointsMemo
For the second year in a row, Ron Paul won the CPAC presidential straw poll, taking home 30% of the votes cast. Mitt Romney came in second with 23% of the vote. The rest of the 16 candidate field shared single-digit levels of support.

Results of the poll were first published by Human Events, with other media organizations following shortly after. The final results were announced to attendees at about 5:30.

Paul's win was widely expected, as his supporters have packed the halls here (and spent big money to do it.) It's true that he has a lot of die-hard support, but it's hard to see the CPAC win today as a sign that he has any kind of a broad base in the GOP electorate

For Romney, who made a big deal out of his 2008 CPAC straw poll win, second place here probably solidifies him as the frontrunner in the early stages of the 2012 presidential race.

Mike Huckabee and Michele Bachmann lead in a Gallup 'Positivity' polling of possible presidential candidates for the GOP.

Frank Newport - Gallup Poll March 15, 2011
PRINCETON, NJ -- Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee leads the field of possible GOP presidential candidates in "positive intensity" among Republicans nationwide with a score of +25 among Republicans who are familiar with him, followed by Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota with a score of +20. Huckabee is recognized by 87% of Republicans, compared with Bachmann's 52%. A number of other possible Republican presidential candidates trail these two in Positive Intensity Scores, including Sarah Palin, who is the best known of the group...

...from Washington Post
Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) is likely to form a presidential exploratory committee, two advisers said Thursday. The committee could be formed as soon as May but no later than June.

"The size and enthusiasm of the crowds she has been attracting is very encouraging,” said Ed Brookover, a consultant to Bachmann. “The voters are telling her to keep pushing forward with her fight to stop this unparalleled growth of government.”

Bachmann is currently in Iowa, speaking to grassroots activists and state legislators. This morning she addressed the state Senate caucus and has secured the support of Iowa state Sen. Kent Sorenson.

Yup. Introducing the new Sarah Palin..........

I especially loved her interpretation of early American history, such as "the Founding Fathers were active in the abolition of slavery". In fact, many owned slaves. Or, how about describing to the residents of New Hampshire how inspired she was, knowing that the "shot heard 'round the world" starting the American Revolution was "fired right here". In fact, the opening salvos were fired at Lexington Common and then later in the day at nearby Concord - both in Massachusetts.
