Oh boy. This has got to stop. Using real people as pawns in a game of one-upmanship for political gain is disgusting. :mad: It won't matter for a lot of people if, once it passes, it will be "retroactive." When you're living hand to mouth, the promise of money in a few weeks to months does nothing to put food on the table, pay the rent or mortgage, or pay the utility bills NOW. This stinks to high heaven. :(

People need jobs, any kind of job.:(

Recession's untold story
Two weeks ago Palumbo posted a want ad on Craigslist for a part-time dog-kennel assistant. The ad does say that working with dogs can be fun but then goes into some gory detail about the hardships — including the poop.

So far, 260 people have applied.

There was a time when being a politician was like answering to a higher calling. I am so disgusted with most of them I would like to fire them all!

...and then today a link off drudge -
2,000 House staffers make six figure incomes -- some as high as $174,500.

How many jobs at even 30k could exist with just the salaries of those 2000? OK a drop in the bucket when looking at the overall unemployment in the USA - but why are taxpayers paying that much for staffers?

Instead of wasting all the time spent on this health care bill, congress should have been working on JOBS promotion for the people.

I sent an email to Rep Glen letting him know how much I despise his actions. Fortunately this bill was rejected but it's the attitude I am concerned about.

Those are not out the norm salaries for those with a Masters/PhD/JD which is what alot of staffers have as an Ed level. Especially in a city that has one of the highest cost of living in the nation. A median 2 bedroom apt rents for $1900 in DC and more in the suburbs. And the jobs are not 9-5. Sometimes 60+ hours per week on a good week.

Psychic - The article mentions starting salaries for staffers is 30K. The salaries of some of these staffers exceed the starting salaries of elected officials.

Am quite well aware of housing costs - in case you missed it - have family who work in DC - they commute from VA.

A lot of big city locations have high housing rates. Even here a one bedroom apartment runs between $600-750 and that is in some of the suburb areas.

==
back to unemployment - the place to find the money is at the top ends - eliminate or reduce. Bring back the factories and other jobs lost to NAFTA. Make it more expensive for these companies to have their jobs located overseas.

CK, we can't bring back the jobs already shipped out... but aren't we still bright and innovative enough to create NEW ones HERE no one else has thought of, yet? If we can't, the we're right where we're supposed to be, and that's not a pleasant thought.

Darkhawk - are you really just here to ridicule and challenge. Do you feel you have much in common with the other posters here?

Most of your posts are boiler-plate right wing extremism, not discussion. I get the distinct impression this is all not working out well. Ya think?
