Getting too old.......

In Canada we have Tylenol 1, 2 and 3. T1's have 8mg codeine and T3's have 30mg.
T1's are available OTC without a prescription.
I've tried extra strength Tylenol and Ibuprofen but neither are sufficient to get to sleep with bruised ribs.
I despise the codeine almost as much as the morphine but it gives me less physical side effects.

For me ice and ibuprofen is the number one thing for many if not most injuries. It is the swelling that actually causes pain, so anything to bring down swelling is the way to go. I have a chronic pain injury that I have dealt with for over 20 years now, and I have also tried everything.
Practice breathing... breathing properly can go a long way to relieving pain, plus it will keep your ribs and abdomen limber so you won't get cramping and soreness from lack of use.
Don't put any sort of compression on your ribs, and try sleeping with the injured area facing down, although that seems strange, the pressure on them can alleviate swelling and can sometimes be the only comfortable way to lie down.

My problem is I sleep like a log: I roll all night.
The pain is so acute that the only way I can lie down is on my back, which is the one position I cannot fall asleep in, unless of course I'm in my hammock which I can't use at present. Ironic......
I have a couple of body pillows I've tried to keep me in one position but once asleep all bets are off.

I move around too at night, and I am used to being woken up by pain. There is not much you can do... Your sleep will suffer, but that is OK actually since when you are awake you can be sure not to injure yourself more. Sleep itself won't fix you, being immobile and resting will. Catch up on all those books you skipped because you were too busy

I would like to highly recommend this for topical analgesic and cooling relief.

Well the doc who cut my plaster cast off here did say that they usually only go with an aircast if there is one broken bone. He said there is no research regarding it's effectiveness with 2 broken bones, so it may be impeding the healing process.
That or I really banged it up good. And by the looks of the bruising still coming out I think this may be the case.......
